Mighty Michael van Gerwen (MVG) underlined his enduring pedigree by capturing a second Mr Vegas Nordic Darts Masters crown in Copenhagen, prevailing in a pulsating 8-7 encounter against Luke Humphries on Saturday evening.
The Dutch luminary delivered a succession of increasingly authoritative performances at the Forum Copenhagen to secure his second World Series of Darts title of the 2026 campaign. In doing so, Van Gerwen became the first player to claim the Nordic Darts Masters title on more than one occasions since the tournament’s incarnation in 2021.

Having comfortably negotiated his opening assignment against Oskar Lukasiak on Friday, the three-time World Champion was subsequently embroiled in a far more precarious affair against Sweden’s Viktor Tingstrom. The home-region favourite, who had already accounted for defending champion Stephen Bunting, threatened another major upset by establishing a 5-3 advantage.
Nevertheless, Van Gerwen exhibited considerable fortitude and competitive tenacity, reeling off three successive legs before surviving a match dart to extricate himself from danger and advance to the semi-finals.
Awaiting him there was Jonny Clayton, yet the tournament’s top seed produced one of his most consummate displays of the weekend. Registering a 101.55 average and converting 44 per cent of his attempts at double, Van Gerwen secured a convincing 7-4 triumph to progress to his third World Series final in as many appearances this season.
Standing opposite him in the championship decider was an imperious Luke Humphries, who had arrived in the Danish capital in scintillating form. The world number two immediately seized the initiative, aided by a pair of clinical 12-dart legs to establish a 3-1 advantage.
However, Van Gerwen’s powers of recuperation once again came to the fore. Four consecutive legs transformed the complexion of the contest, only for Humphries to respond in kind and restore parity at 5-5. The enthralling encounter eventually required a deciding leg, where the Dutchman survived a match dart aimed at the bullseye before clinically preserving his throw in 15 darts to secure an astonishing eighteenth World Series title.
“It was a really tough game,” reflected Van Gerwen, who converted 57% of his double attempts to seal victory against Humphries.
“Luke had the chance to be 4-1 and 5-2 up and luckily I took advantage.
“My performances in the first two rounds were not good, I have to acknowledge that, but more importantly the way I bounced back and kept grafting, that helped me win today and I’m really pleased with that.
“Winning tournaments and winning games is the only medicine to try and get better. I’ve been playing this game for a long time, but I love what I do, and this gives me an amazing feeling.
“I want to do this more often. I’m going back on the practice board, I will keep investing time in myself, and I hope I can show everyone a lot more.”
Despite falling agonisingly short in the showpiece, Humphries further embellished his impressive recent form with a series of superlative displays throughout the event.
The former World Champion commenced proceedings with a staggering 109.92 average in his victory over Jeffrey de Graaf before overcoming European Champion Gian van Veen in a frenetic quarter-final which went the full distance. Five maximums proved instrumental as Humphries emerged triumphant from that engrossing confrontation.

His semi-final assignment pitted him against reigning World Champion Luke Littler in a highly anticipated rematch of the Premier League final. On this occasion, Humphries exacted retribution with a sublime display, averaging 105.82 and converting half of his opportunities at double to earn his place in the final.
Although he narrowly missed out on the title, the 31-year-old produced remarkably consistent standards throughout the weekend. Indeed, his 98.83 average in the final represented the only occasion in Copenhagen in which he failed to surpass the three-figure barrier.
“At the moment I’m losing a lot of finals and that isn’t good enough,” admitted Humphries.
“Hopefully in the World Cup I can gain some silverware and win a tournament – it would be nice for me, that’s what I need.”
Elsewhere, Jonny Clayton prevailed in an all-Welsh quarter-final against Gerwyn Price, capitalising upon his compatriot’s profligacy on the outer ring to record a 6-3 success.
Meanwhile, Luke Littler avenged his UK Open final conqueror James Wade in emphatic fashion, cruising to a one-sided 6-1 victory to book his place in a second World Series semi-final of the season.
Attention now shifts across the Atlantic, with the World Series of Darts resuming from June 25-26 when the US Darts Masters is staged at the prestigious Infosys Theater inside Madison Square Garden in New York.
