UKDA National League – Essex vs Cornwall: Peetoom Family Treble

Red Dragon Darts

Essex’s long trip to St Austell ended in another defeat after such a promising result at home against Hampshire.

Suffering big losses against Warwickshire in Coventry, home to Lancashire and again away in Crewe, Essex finally got back to winning ways with a healthy 24-15 win against Hampshire at Chelmsford Social Club.

Vs Hampshire: The Ladies B won only one set with Leanne Peetoom (16.41) the victor. The Men’s ‘B’ was rampant as they won 10-2 with wins from John Costigan (29.70), Bryan Margerison (28.09), Matthew Garrett (27.45), Jamie Peetoom (26.93), Andrew Currivan (25.35), Malcolm Clark (25.21), Michael Pinnington (24.85), Simon Monk (23.60), Danny McIntyre (21.78) and Lennie Holmes (20.94).  The Ladies ‘A’ drew with wins from Stacey Ellis (20.96), Donna Gleed (19.50) and Carol Pinfold (19.26). The Men’s ‘A’ was victorious winning 7-5 with wins from Steve Haggerty (31.81), Keegan Brown (29.91), Andrew Kateley (26.84), Michael Hancocks (26.06), Phil Halls (25.37), Richie Howson (24.26) and Paul Marsh (23.31).

Vs Cornwall: The Ladies ‘B’ who’ve been averaging one-set win per match drew, with Leanne Peetoom winning 3-1 with a 22.02 average, Jade Gofford (17.48) winning 3-0 and Kerry Rudd (13.10) winning 3-2.  The Men’s ‘B’ started well winning five of the first 8-sets with wins from Jamie Peetoom (26.03) 4-0, Scott Lawrie (25.32) 4-3, Simon Monk (24.74) 4-0, Matthew Garrett (22.93) 4-3 and Lennie Holmes (22.15) 4-2. However, Essex lost all four of the final four sets to lose out 5-7. Lynn Kelly (15.21) winning 3-2 got the Ladies ‘A’ off to a winning start, but only lady of the match Carol Pinfold (20.31) could secure a win, therefore losing out 2-4. Therefore, the Men’s ‘A’ had it all to do and John Costigan (23.29) got Essex off to a winning start, but three losses followed before Andrew Kateley (27.45) won 4-0. An unfortunate loss for Phill Halls in the next set by Cornwall’s man of the man Jez Camp meant Cornwall couldn’t lose the weekend, but Essex fought hard for a drawn game but came up short. Keegan Brown (28.61), Darren Peetoom (28.73) and Joe Russell (21.88) all won and kept it alive, but Essex lost the final three sets giving Cornwall their first ever victory against Essex, 24-15.

The match will be noted for one-thing for Essex, the Peetoom family of Father Darren, son Jamie and daughter Leanne all winning match awards.

Essex has a must win game at home to Devon up next followed by an away trip to rivals London, both in February.
