Scott Williams and Stefan Bellmont were victorious on Friday, in winning Challenge Tour Events 6 & 7 respectively, as the PDC’s second tier tour weekend commenced at the H+ Hotel, Niedernhausen.
Williams, who won the opening two Challenge Tour events of the year, entered the weekend top of the Order of Merit from the opening five events, dropped just 16 legs on route to the decider, as he recorded victories over Steffen Siepmann, Marvin Koch, Shaun Thompson, Jamie Lewis, Kevin Bloome, Kenny Neyens and Peter Jacques, to set up a clash with Scott Marsh.
The final began with Williams racing into a 2-0 lead, with winning legs coming in 14 and 15 darts, before Marsh halved the deficit in leg three with a 16 darter. Williams then won back-to-back legs again, which saw him move within one of victory, with Marsh needing to win four on the spin to keep his title hopes alive. Marsh nearly pulled off an incredible comeback, as he won three on the spin to force a decider, before Williams sealed the victory with a 16 darter to take the title and the £2,000 first prize.
In Event 7, it was Stefan Bellmont who was victorious, as he dropped just 15 legs on route to the decider, after recording victories over Markus Kessler, Alex Flohr, Jesus Noguera, Michal Smejda, Steffen Siepmann, Toni Alcinas and Nathan Girvan, to set up a clash with Karel Sedlacek.
The final began with Sedlacek taking the opening two legs in 12 and 20 darts, before Bellmont won the following two legs to level up the tie at 2-2. Sedlacek then won back-to-back legs again to move within one of victory, with Bellmont needing to win three on the spin to keep his title hopes alive. The Swiss thrower produced an incredible comeback, in winning three on the spin to take the title and pick up his 1st within the PDC.
PDC Winmau Challenge Tour weekend continues on Saturday, with Events 8 & 9 taking place in Niedernhausen, with play commencing at 10:00 CET, as all live scores and results can be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com.
