Darts World Extra 3: Welcome

Red Dragon Darts

June has become a hectic month for darts. Whether at elite-level PDC competition, or the multiple other channels now available for players and fans to enjoy their arrows, it seems as if there is barely a day in which there is no activity or news.

This third issue of Darts World Extra ( Free to download or read here) looks back over the highlights since our previous publication and casts an eye forward to the traditional ‘Matchplay Madness’ of July.

Remarkably there will be three World Matchplays within the next thirty days. The World Seniors Matchplay kicks off this weekend, from the Bonus Arena in Hull, and it will be interesting to see whether the initial enthusiasm for these ‘Seniors Majors’ can be sustained.

The World Matchplay will of course dominate the month. This much-loved event was perhaps the strongest signal of our return to normality last summer. Full crowds a searingly hot week of sunshine and superb darts. Peter Wright’s win underlined his late learned ability to produce his very best at the very biggest moments. Snakebite would again use it to great effect at Ally Pally five months later.

The PDC has taken the bold decision to launch a Women’s World Matchplay and hold the 8-player event on one day in the midst of one of their flagship events. The top 8 players from the [Women’s Series] Order of Merit will be rewarded with places at the inaugural Women’s televised major promoted by the PDC.

There are pieces and previews for all three Matchplay events within the 50 pages that traditionally make up DWE.

We look back at the triumph of MVG in the Premier League and the oh-so-close efforts of Joe Cullen. Australia’s triumph in the World Cup of Darts brought a smile to many faces, bittersweet in some ways, but as always everyone enjoyed different elements of the PDC’s annual team jamboree.

Bullseyes and Bounceouts, Talking Points” and Choose Your Weapons are amongst the many regular features as DWE seeks to offer something for every darts enthusiast.

Our On-Tour sections again bring you up to date with non-TV darts of as many types as we can squeeze in. From Live League to Dev Tour and much more besides.

Enjoy!
