Red Dragon Darts

ALAN Towe leads us through a dozen or so leagues from around Birmingham and other West Midlands areas:

Thurlestone lost ground in the Kings Norton League title race and also their number two spot as they lost 4-3 at home to Rubery Social Club who replace their opponents in second place two points behind leaders Copper Fox who made it twelve wins in thirteen games when they won 4-3 at home against fourth in the league Bournebrook who are now six points off the top.

Four of the five games played this week ended with close 4-3 results Bourneville’s 5-2 home win over Grant Arms the only exception.

M.Lloyd recorded a maximum for his team Northfield as they beat Cock Inn 4-3.

The Camp Hill League staged the final of their League Cup at Aston Inn which saw third in the league Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club win 4-3 against Tyseley WMC who are fifth in the table. Cotterills achieved the win in the last leg of the very last game it doesn’t come much closer than that!!!

The Consolation Cup final between Moseley Arms and Aston Inn Nomads was played at the Sedgemere Club with league champions Aston Inn Nomads making it a double when they ran out the comfortable 7-0 winners.

After a couple of postponements due to the home venue being booked, the rearranged fixture between Sedgemere Devils and Peaky Blinder was, by mutual agreement played at Moseley Arms. The result was a 5-2 win for Sedgemere Devils, this being their first win in the twelve games they have played so far, perhaps in future they should play all of their games at Moseley Arms!!

It was a good week for the top teams in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League as leaders Waggon and Horses won their home game with Vine ‘B’ 6-1, to put them on 46 points, second-placed Dewdrop ‘A’ won 5-2 at home against Albion to leave them eight points behind Waggon and third placed Miners Arms ‘B’ who are a further four points adrift won 6-1 at bottom of the table Tamebridge who are without a win or point after 24 games.

The Sutton and District Summer League have now completed all of their domestic fixtures after the one outstanding remaining division two result between Erdington Arrows and Scott Armers is in. The outcome was a 6-3 win for Erdington which has no effect on the division two table but does see Erdington win the Shadow League title, just pipping St Thomas Arrows on average as both teams finished on eight points.

Week two in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League and after winning their opener against Mount Pleasant 7-0 Quarry Bank Labour Club repeated the result against the Cat Inn to top the table without dropping a single leg. Cross (Oldswinford) and Ten Arches are both level on average and on the same four points as the leaders after Cross won 5-2 at Bird in Hand and Ten Arches won 7-0 at Britannia.

Gate Hangs Well, The Princess and Raven are the only other teams in the league to have played two and won two. Gate and Princess are level on average their latest fixtures seeing them win in turn against Bell (4-3) and Glasscutters (7-0). Raven had a 5-2 win over Fox Inn (Lye).    

Netherton Conservative Club are the only other unbeaten team in the league but they have only played one fixture, they had a bye this week.

The Netherton Thursday Night League has got back underway and as the new season gets going with the first fixtures last season champions and runners-up Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ and Townsend Social Club top the table both winning 7-2, the Ex Serviceman’s won at Bulls Head who finished the last campaign in third place while Townsend won against Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’. Spring Meadow are not far behind the leading duo winning 6-3 at home against Netherton Sports and Social ‘B’.

There is just one more round of fixtures to play in the Silver End Sunday Morning League and second in the table Dudley Sports have the superior average but current leaders Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club have the vital two point’s advantage. The latest fixtures saw the Ex Serviceman’s Club win 5-3 at Black Horse ‘B’ while Dudley Sports won 6-2 at New Talbot to leave everything hinging on the final games.

There are four fixtures remaining in the Rowley Monday Night League with just two points separating the top three teams. Leaders Bell added their 7-2 home win over Romsley Cricket Club to their account to put them on 46 points, two more than both Clock (Whiteheath) and Plough and Harrow in second and third places respectively. Clcok were the week’s biggest winners as they handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts Three Diamonds while Plough and Harrow won 7-2 at home against Cradley Sports and Social, should be quite a tense run-in to the end of the season.

Played fourteen won fourteen that’s Dunky’s Boys record in division one of the Shirley and District Monday Night League and it’s that record that keeps them top of the division despite having a bye in the most recent round of fixtures. Second in the division Tippetts Bar despite having a game in hand on Dunky’s fell further behind them this week as they lost their home game with Wythall Legion who are just two places off the bottom of the division, 5-4 leaving Tippetts with eight points fewer than the leaders.

In division two Leo’s Vikings were ousted from their top perch by second in the division Yardley Wood Social, Yardley’s 6-3 win taking them up into pole position with 14 points with a superior average over Leo’s Vikings and third-placed Saracens Misfits who are both also on 14 points.

Labour Club with a 6-1 win at Dudley Sports extended their unbeaten run in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League to fifteen games which keeps them six points to the good on Bird in Hand ‘E’, Ten Arches and Fox Inn (Lye). Bird in Hand ‘E’ and Ten Arches are locked together on the same points and average. In the latest fixtures Bird in Hand ‘E’ lost ground in the title race surprisingly going down 4-3 at Bell ‘A’ who are eighth in the table while Ten Arches had a 5-2 home success playing against Black Horse.

Ashwood dropped one place from sixth after losing 4-3 at the Shovel, Shovel moving up one place to third form bottom.

Twelve teams began the new season in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League and after only five games have been played only reigning champions Old Bulls Head remain undefeated. Old Bulls Head’s 7-2 win at New Inn puts them two points ahead of Five Ways, Gornal Labour Club and Seven Stars. Previously Five Ways were top of the table but a 5-4 home defeat to Seven Stars sees them drop to second with Seven Stars fourth. Gornal Labour Club recorded the biggest win of the week an 8-1 home success over Red Cow.  

Cabin and Meadow Lark are now the only two teams in the league without a win so far.

With just one more week of fixtures to play in the Ashwood Premier League Nick Fullwell is already acclaimed champion as he is on 334 points from 52 games and has a huge 56 points lead over second in the table Geoff Marson. The latest games saw Fullwell win 7-0 against Rob Pierce and Paul Pollard while Geoff Marson won 4-3 against Shane Passey and 5-2 against Gaz Cartwright before losing 4-3 to Chris Fox and Adam Edgar leaving him on 278 points from the same number of games as Fullwell.

Just five points behind Marson in third place with a game in hand is Adam Edgar, he began the night with a 5-2 win over Mike Cullis and after beating Marson then won 5-2 again, this time against Matt Davies to give him 273 points.

The Black Country Thursday Night Singles League have completed its inaugural season and with a total of 395 points Graham Hall is crowned champion winning 43 of his 45 games. Taking the runners-up prize is Jamie Hughes with 387 points and in third place with 364 is Jason Lowe who finished seventeen points to the good on fourth in the league Nick Fullwell.

The top two teams in the Singles Division of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League Railway and ECC both had a bye in week twenty, however, Railway with thirty points from their sixteen games hold on to pole position while ECC drop one place to third with twenty-four points but they have played one game more than Railway. Taking over in second place is Gilbert’s Bar whose 6-1 home win over Cleveland Arms takes their points tally to 26 from the same sixteen games as Railway. Fourth in the division Woodfield have played the same number of games as ECC and are on the same 24 points after adding their 6-1 win at Stile.

It’s Hurst Hill leading the way in the Doubles Division, their latest 3-0 win at Wednesfield Legion giving them a total of 30 points with a two points advantage over second-placed ECC who had a bye.

After the top two teams come three teams Moreton Arms, Railway and Woodfield all on 18 points. Moreton won 3-0 at Red Lion, Railway who have a game in hand on the top two and two in hand on Moreton had a bye and Woodfield won 2-1 at Stile.
