IN another step-change for women’s darts the PDC have doubled down on the expansion of their Women’s Series and other opportunities for the 2023 season:
The Professional Darts Corporation has announced a further boost for women’s darts, with increased prize money for the PDC Women’s Series and a third place in the Cazoo World Darts Championship.
Recent years have seen a number of developments within the PDC to enhance women’s darts, with qualifying places in the World Darts Championship and Grand Slam of Darts followed by the introduction of the PDC Women’s Series.
This year also saw an eight-player Betfred Women’s World Matchplay take place in Blackpool, as well as a full 20-event PDC Women’s Series circuit.
In the first of a series of prize fund increases across the PDC circuit to be confirmed in the coming weeks, prize money on the PDC Women’s Series will increase to £10,000 per event.
This follows the expansion of the PDC Women’s Series to 24 events across six weekends in 2023, meaning that prize money of £240,000 will be on offer next year.
In addition, the winner of the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay will also receive a place in the Cazoo World Darts Championship, beginning from the 2022/23 event as inaugural champion Fallon Sherrock returns to Alexandra Palace next month.
Sherrock defeated Aileen de Graaf in the Women’s World Matchplay decider in Blackpool in July, and said:
“That was a wonderful day for me and I’m proud to have won, and it’s great that I will now get to go back to Ally Pally.
“The PDC have done amazing things for women’s darts in recent years and that’s given us players a platform to play at the highest level.”
Sherrock will join the top two players from the PDC Women’s Series Order of Merit – Lisa Ashton and Beau Greaves – in competing at this year’s World Darts Championship, three years on from her history-making wins over Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic.
