The Amateur Darts Circuit is well underway in 2023 following the introduction of the brand-new Vault Series concept, with multiple competitions held every day in many regions across the UK including, the Northeast, Yorkshire and Humber, Wales, and Scotland.
Tony Wood who impressed in the ADC last year including the first nine-darter for the newly formed organisation, picked up a victory at the Northeast Event in Washington. Wood finished top of group four with ten points. The Pincher was the only player to not lose a game in the competition, with the other 23 players all losing at least one match on Sunday.
The popular and flamboyantly shirted thrower went on to beat Jock Lyons 3-2 in the Final, breaking throw in the very last leg on the madhouse to put himself tenth in the table. Paul Nesbitt the ADC Number 1 leads the way at the top of the Northeast Region table with 218 points followed by Kevin McDine, who is 49 points behind the leader.
It was a double winner for Wood last week at it was also announced that he had been signed up by manufacturer Datadart. To join the likes of Martin Adams and the legendary Jocky Wilson must be a tremendous boost.
We at DW, who noticed Tony due to him being a namesake of our founder, can’t help thinking that our coverage of Tony’s sartorial elegance during his ADC heroics last year caught the eye of someone st Datadart HQ
Davie Kewan the Scottish region leader continued his brilliant start to the 2023 Vault Series after winning the Round Robin event on Sunday. The 50-year-old has picked up two tournament victories at the Crown Bar beating Kyle Walker 3-0 in the Final, averaging 21 points more than his opponent including two 140s.
Welsh region leader Stephen Cake picked up his second Vault Series win of the year, beating Chris Jones 3-2 in the Final including a 180 and a 91.25 average at the Hollybush Rugby Club.
The Welshman leads the way on 17 points, 7 clear of second placed Connor Hopkins with the likes of Champion of Champions winner Alec Small and Liam Meek also expected to feature, as both missed out on a PDC tour card at UK Qualifying School.
The Vault Series continues Monday with more Round Robin events scheduled in the Northeast, Southwest and Midlands regions, giving players more opportunities for points.
