Leonard Gates took the early lead on Monday, in ending Day 1 of Group A, top, after winning four of his five matches, with Week 2 of Stage Three commencing at the Modus Super Series.
Gates, who competed at the World Senior Darts Championship last weekend, took the early lead by winning four matches from five, as he recorded victories over Conan Whitehead, Gary Hayes, Colin Osborne and Owen Bates, with his only defeat coming against Larry Butler.
Elsewhere, Debutant Owen Bates also ended the day on 8 points, but sits behind Gates on leg difference, with Larry Butler sitting in 3rd on 6 points, Colin Osborne in 4th on 4 points, as Conan Whitehead and Gary Hayes sit 5th and 6th respectively on 2 points each.
Darts World ambassador Osborne ensured a better finish to the day after edging out Super Series One winner Conan Whitehead in the day’s final game. After a less-than-fluent opener, The Wizard had maintained his winning record over American Eagle Butler before slipping to two more defeats. However, the final game was high scoring and entertaining with both men looking likely to claim it at different points. A blistering start to the 7th leg ensured Osborne had a clear chance at the double for the match.
The Modus Super Series continues on Tuesday with the six players returning, hoping to boost their chances of securing a place in Saturday’s Finale, with Gates leading the way thus far. Play will begin at 9:30am GMT and will be streamed live on the Modus YouTube channel, Sporty Stuff TV or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
