JDC Foundation Tour Start 2023 Season in Style

The 2023 JDC Foundation Tour saw a new headline sponsor, Martsacademy.com jump on board and a record 133 players begin the Tour, designed for under-18-year-olds, on its opening weekend. Team 360 youngster Riley Rees-Tucker picked up two Foundation Tour titles in the first quadruple-header event of the 2023 season.

In addition to a record number of players, the 2023 Foundation Tour has increased the number of events to 20 from 12 last year with the prize fund also increasing to £10,000. In addition to the four Advanced Tour cards on offer, there will be an additional card available at the European leg of the tour in Eindhoven in May.

This weekend would see the first day belong to 17-year-old Welsh ace Riley Rees Tucker who won both events on Saturday. As Riley is 18 this year, his last opportunity will be to play the Foundation Tour within the JDC, as he will not be eligible for the tour cards on offer. This is also the case for another debutant and 17-year-old Terry Clancy who played JDC for the first time this weekend and he would take the honours in the last event of the weekend.

Event 3 would see an inaugural JDC Win for 14-year-old Mason Teese who has played JDC for the last few years and came good midway through Sunday afternoon.

Darren Barson JDC Director of Operations commented:

“We are all delighted to see the growth in the Foundation Tour this year. If we are honest, it has definitely exceeded our expectations in numbers. The idea to spilt the JDC tour into this tiered system of Greenzone, Foundation and Advanced is panning out just as we hoped.

It’s great to see players join us for the first time and it’s great to see those that have spent time with us over the years give it one last go before they turn 18. The team this weekend was fantastic and to have 133 players playing 2 tournaments in one day was tremendous. We won’t rest on this however, we will look to continue to improve as we expect the numbers to grow further.”

The Foundation tour resumes next month for events 5-8 March 25th – 26th in Coventry.
