Cyclone is a dart that you may be somewhat familiar with if you were watching the fantastic PDC action from Minehead this weekend?
They are a superb dart, popular with most testers especially those with relaxed precision throw styles. Durable and tempting as well as superbly engineered and manufactured.A sleek and smooth tapered dart with a touch of class:
- Product: Darts (Steel Tip)
- Brand: Red Dragon
- Model Name: Cyclone (V2)
- Variation: 23g (25g available.)
- RRP: £28.70
General:
Cyclone is based on a model originally produced for Andy ‘Goldfinger’ Gilding. Suffolk thrower Andy reached the semi-finals of the UK Open in 2018 and succeeded in the BDO before steadily progressing within the PDC. The dart has undergone an evolution since and has some very credible fans!
A superbly designed and elegant-looking dart, Cycolne has similarities to the Fusion series and also some with the well-regarded Camaro dart. The small grip section is impressive and refined. The curved taper is completely smooth to reduce deflections or minimise them.
The PVD coated razor grip area leads to a slight softening of an agressive grip but also a precision guide to repeatition of the rear powered grip that suits these centre balanced arrows.
This style has been roundly applauded by multiple analysts such as Mikko Laiho and ourselves.
What’s in the Box?
As with most Red Dragon darts, these days, Cyclone com in the standard secure boxed packaging with a set of three barrels (23g) together with a set of Blue Nitro stems and colour coordinated (Blue & Black) set of Hardcore flights.
Spec Section:
- 90% Tungsten (Natural)
- 40.6mm x 8mm (Widest)
- 23.1g
- Shark Grip Rear Section (5/5) Rest Smooth
Tester Quotes:
“…I loved the grip on the upper section of the dart. I can really feel it even with my light hold.”
County Lady Player
” … there is a bit of my old Sigma’s in them but much smoother and better…”
Super League player
” these are just so much better than I imagined. I was never keen on the tapered nose dart but this is just totally different…”
Elite player
Debbie Downers:
As always the Cyclone did not suit everyone’s taste, the main quibbles were surrounding the grip. Some players find it very aggressive and out of sync with such a smooth sleek design. Another player wanted the grip section to be larger than the carefully selected segment. Often though, these things are simply a matter of personal taste.
Durability:
Cyclone has stood up very well. They were been used in over two hundred legs by a group of different players over an extended period. They have barely a mark on them with the collared point working very nicely in tandem with the smoothness overall.
Snapshot Summary:
This is a superb dart. It would suit players who are very even powered , and precise with each dart and those who remain relaxed in their delivery. One tester has ordered the heavier weight and is confident he may switch. They are popular with most testers and all agree that £28.70 is exceptional value for a dart of premium design and pedigree.
