Ron Meulenkamp and Dragutin Horvat were victorious on Saturday, in winning the Winmau Challenge Tour Events 8 & 9 respectively, as the 2nd weekend of the PDC’s second tier tour season ended at Halle 39, Hildesheim.
Meulenkamp, who lost in the final of Friday’s Event 7, went a step further in the opening event of Saturday’s play, as he reached the final by recording victories against Maikel Kustermans, Michael Flynn, Niall Culleton, Colin Osborne, Sven Van Dun, Geoffery Murray and Eddie Lovely, to set up a clash with Dutch compatriot, Alexander Merkx.
The final saw Meulenkamp dominate the tie, by not giving Merkx a sniff, as he rattled off five straight legs, without fail, with winning legs coming in a total of 76 darts, ending with a 15 darter and a 5-0 whitewash win, with the Dutchman picking up his 2nd Challenge Tour title of his career and a 1st since 2014.
In Event 9, Germany’s Dragutin Horvat picked up a maiden PDC title, as he reached the final by recording victories against Brett Claydon, Josh Newton, Nicky Denoon, Wesley Plaisier, Cam Crabtree, John Henderson and Kenny Neyens, to set up a clash with Christian Kist.
Once again for a 2nd event in a row, the decider was completely one sided, as Horvat rattled off five consecutive legs to whitewash the Former Lakeside Champion, with winning legs coming in 21,20,22,15 and 18 darts respectively to seal the victory and move up to 9th in the Order of Merit after nine events played.
Elsewhere, the day saw ‘Queen of the Palace’ Fallon Sherrock create more history, as she fired in a perfect leg during Event 9 and becoming the first woman to hit a nine-dart leg in a PDC event.
The PDC Winmau Challenge Tour returns between 5-7th May with Events 10-14 taking place from The Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes. All live scores and results will be viewed via tv.dartconnect.com.
