Gates Gets Masters Call Up

Red Dragon Darts

Leonard Gates has accepted an invitation to the World Seniors Masters.

The Soulger will replace Glen Durrant in the tournament set to take place at Westlands Yeovil after Duzza has opted to withdraw.

Gates has appeared in two World Seniors Darts Tour TV tournaments so far having made his debut in the JenningsBet World Seniors Darts Championship in February.

The American was beaten in the Semi-Finals by Richie Howson, but he got his revenge just last weekend, beating The Owl in the final of the Champion of Champions.

Gates’s inclusion completes the list of invited players to the World Seniors Masters that will take place on 24-25th June 2023. Phil Taylor, Robert Thornton and Martin Adams lead the way with reigning champion David Cameron also taking part.

Trina Gulliver, Bob Anderson and John Part are all former world champions in the field, whilst Neil Duff is the reigning WDF Champion. Kevin Painter is an ever-present in World Seniors TV majors, whilst Chris Mason and Mark Dudbridge are both back having made their WSDT TV debuts this year.

The full 16-person field will be decided on 14-16th April via a two-day qualifying series, with invitations also being awarded to the top of the WSDT order of merit, and Money Lists.

Tickets for the World Seniors Masters at Westlands Yeovil are available now, and can be bought via https://www.westlandsyeovil.co.uk/whats-on/sports-events/

Billy Lovell of the World Seniors Darts Tour said:

“Following Leonards success in Blackpool this weekend, we’re delighted to be able to include him in the field for the World Seniors Masters in what is set to be yet another incredibly strong field.”

“At the same time we are equally gutted Glen has decided to withdraw, but appreciative of him letting us know this early, and being honest that he feels he would not be ready to compete in this tournament. We wish Glen all the best and hope to see him back firing on the oche as soon as possible.”
