Former World Champion Rob Cross is still on the lookout for a first win on the PDC European Tour, as he searches for a maiden Euro crown. The Englishman has reached the Semi-Finals of the European Darts Open and the Quarter Finals of this weekend’s International Darts Open so far in 2023.
The 32-year-old has put in some good performances, reaching the Quarter Finals of the UK Open, including wins over Dutch duo Jeffrey de Zwaan and Raymond van Barneveld at Butlin’s Minehead Resort.
Voltage is a rare player within the PDC having won an almost complete set of titles at all levels he has been eligible. Following his win at an amateur Rileys qualifier, for the 2016 UK Open, he added Challenge and Pro Tour titles swiftly and of course, his World title was then added to with a World Matchplay and European Championship crown. A European Tour event would certainly complete a special set.
The World No. 5 will return for the 4th Euro Tour this weekend in Munich with the German Darts Grand Prix taking place at the Kulturhalle Zenith. Voltage has included some good single performances in Riesa and Leverkusen, beating William O’Connor in the 3rd Round of ET 2 with an average of 110.18. He will have two chances to complete his set and to secure his first PDC Ranking title of the year with Austria for ET5 following later this month.
In 2022, the Hastings thrower lost in the Final of the German Darts Championship to Michael van Gerwen 8-5 in Hildesheim. He was also defeated twice in finals, against the eventual Euro Tour Number 1 Luke Humphries, with the Red Dragon player picking up the European Darts Grand Prix and the Czech Darts Open.
Cross was very close to returning to the Premier League picture for the 2023 season. But, suffering an 11-7 defeat in the final of The Masters to Chris Dobey saw him fall at the final hurdle.
The 2018 World Champion will hope to make the top two English-ranked players in the upcoming World Cup of Darts, with Humphries and Nathan Aspinall also fighting to join Michael Smith this year in representing England.
Euro Tour 4 starts from midday on Friday as the 1st Round begins from Munich, with Voltage set to enter the competition in the 2nd Round, being the tournament’s 3rd Seed. Premier League leader Michael van Gerwen who dumped Cross out of the 2022 event, will be absent from this year’s competition.
