Van Duijvenbode continued his incredible run of form to pick up a 3rd title of the year at the Robin Park Tennis Centre on Sunday.
Dirk Van Duijvenbode produced a dominant display in his 8-3 victory over Jose De Sousa in the final of Players Championship 10, as the Pro Tour double header concluded at the Robin Park Tennis Centre, Wigan.
The winner of the year’s fourth and sixth Players Championship Event, Van Duijvenbode, reached the final on Sunday by recording victories against Jacques Labre, Matt Campbell, Bradley Brooks, Andrew Gilding, Martijn Kleermaker and Dimitri Van den Bergh, to set up a clash with De Sousa.
The final began with Van Duijvenbode racing into a 5-0 lead, with winning legs coming in a total of 74 darts, before De Sousa ended the run by winning his first leg of the tie with a 15 dart hold of throw.
Van Duijvenbode moved 6-1 ahead in the following leg, as he fired in an incredible 156 checkout, which then saw De Sousa win back-to-back legs in a total of 30 darts to move within three of his opponent.
The Dutchman went on to win back-to-back legs of his own, which saw him seal the victory in Leg 11 with a 14 darter to pick up a third ranking title of the year and a sixth of his career.
De Sousa’s run to a 1st final of the year saw the Portuguese star record victories against Joe Murnan, Radek Szaganski, Stephen Bunting, Luke Humphries, Martin Schindler and Ian White, before being denied by the Dutchman.
Elsewhere, there were Quarter Finals run for Damon Heta and Josh Rock, who along with Martin Schindler, fired in a perfect leg on route to the Last eight, whilst the likes of Gary Anderson, Dave Chisnall and Danny Noppert were among the names to suffer early exits.
The PDC Pro Tour returns on 20-21st May in Leicester with Players Championship Eleven & Twelve taking place, with the 128 players competing for £100,000 in prize money each day, with play beginning at 13:00 BST.
