Painter and Crabtree Set The Pace

Kevin Painter and Cam Crabtree took the early lead on Thursday in ending Day One of their respective groups, top, as they look to join Chris Landman in Saturday’s finale at the Modus Super Series.

Painter, who entered Group C having finished 4^th in Group A earlier in the week, won four matches from five to take the early lead, as he recorded victories against Kai Fan Leung, Tony O’Shea, Franz Roetzsch, and Carl Hamilton, with his only defeat coming against Ryan De Vreede.

The former Players Championship Finals winner had played strongly in Group A earlier in the week but seemed to be slightly unfortunate at crucial times.

Elsewhere, Franz Roetzsch also ended the day on 8 points, but sits behind Painter on leg difference, whilst Ryan De Vreede sits in 3^rd on 6 points, Carl Hamilton in 4^th on 4 points, with Tony O’Shea and Kai Fan Leung sitting joint bottom on 2 points each.

In Group B, Cam Crabtree took the early lead, by completing a clean sweep with four wins from four, as he recorded victories against Mike Gillet, Shaun McDonald, Arjan Konterman, and Jack Hill, coming through three last-leg deciders along the way.

Elsewhere, Shaun McDonald ended the night in 2^nd on 6 points, Mike Gillet in 3^rd on 4 points, and Arjan Konterman in 4^th on 2 points, but it was a disappointing debut at the Super Series for Jack Hill, who failed to register a victory with four defeats from four.

Play continues on Friday with players continuing to battle out as they aim reach Saturday’s finale, with Painter and Crabtree taking the early lead thus far. Group C will commence from 1pm BST and Group B will commence from 10pm BST.
