By the time you read this, I will be midway through my attempt to qualify for the latest MODUS Super Series Weekly final with the prospect of another Champions Week also on offer.
The long drive to Portsmouth allows a little reflection time, which can be rather unpleasant if you just got eliminated, it’s 1 am and chucking it down. But, this time the journey comes after a very positive couple of weeks both on the board and overall.
It’s fantastic to have renewed my relationship with Winmau and to have the backing of one of the most well-known brands in our business. The support and confidence they have shown is another boost in a series of nice moments.
The more eagle-eyed of you may have noticed that in recent times I have been developing and testing some new darts. It was a pleasure to assist Darts World and AIM as they developed their special edition, especially when I hit a 9-Darter with the prototype!
They are different from all my previous sets in as much as they are tapered in the nose area to allow me finer control and more scoring power. AIM’s analysis of my game and the suggestions worked well, especially after Lee Huxtable at Winmau suggested a collared point and produced that prototype version. So now I have my very own version!
There is a lot of action coming up in the next month or so. Challenge Tours, qualifying events and plenty of non-PDC darts as well. The first weekend of the ADC Open Tour was thoroughly enjoyable and successful in part. My first day run to the final confirmed that I am playing some good stuff.
These events are a real midpoint between traditional amateur open events, which I have always played plenty of and thoroughly enjoyed, and the PDC’s Challenge Tour. The fields are very high quality and the organisation is second to none in the grassroots game.
For those of us not currently playing at the elite level it is important that there are opportunities for high-level, well-organised matches and tournaments. More chances to appear on TV via the MODUS Super Series, and earn major prizes means that the perfect pathway is in place.
I intend to get as far along it as humanly possible. See you out there! #UTB
