Berry Van Peer made it a perfect double on Saturday, in winning Challenge Tour Events 12 & 13, as the third weekend of the PDC’s second tier tour season continued in Milton Keynes.
Van Peer, who was victorious at Friday’s Event 10, went all the way once again firstly in Event 12, as he reached the final by recording victories against Charlie Martin, David Ladley, Ashley Coleman, Ricardo Perez, Patrick Lynskey, Christian Kist and Dragutin Horvat, to set up a clash with Harry Ward.
The final began with Ward racing into a 2-0 lead, with winning legs coming in a total of 32 darts, before Van Peer rattled off four consecutive legs to move 4-2 ahead and within one of victory. Ward did pull one leg back, before Van Peer sealed the victory in Leg Eight with a 16 darter to pick up yet another title and a third in 12 events.
In the second event of the day, Van Peer’s run to the final saw him record victories against Lee Grace, Kurt Parry, Dan Read, Grant Brown, James Howard Hughes, Robert Grundy and Jelle Klaasen, to set up a clash with Scott Mitchell.
The final began with Van Peer racing into a 2-0 lead with winning legs coming in a total of 31 darts, before Mitchell fired in a back-to-back 18 darters to square the match up at 2 apiece. The tie then saw three straight holds of throw, before Van Peer crucially broke Mitchell’s throw, which saw him seal a 5-3 victory and end a remarkable day by winning back-to-back titles.
The PDC Winmau Challenge Tour weekend concludes on Sunday with Event 14 taking place in Hildesheim as play commences from 10:30 BST, with all live scores and results to be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com
