THE second weekend of the ADC’s Winmau Open Tour was veritable feast on tungsten tussles. The usual 4 event weekend was supplemented by an equivalent Women’s event for the first time.
David Evans claimed revenge in the second round of ADC Winmau Open Series Events, claiming the first tournament of the weekend in Bridlington. James Richardson became the first player to win 2 competitions this year, with Adam Mould and Chris Wickenden all securing their spots at the MODUS Super Series.
The ADC also saw the introduction of the Women’s Tour in Yorkshire, with former BDO World Champion Lisa Ashton winning 2 competitions on Sunday and 7-time Scottish Open winner Deta Hedman winning 2 tournaments on the Saturday. The Lancashire Rose included a 94.39 average and a 112 finish in beating Casey Gallagher 5-1 in the Final of Event 3.
Evans lost the Final of Winmau Open Series Event 4 at Wythenshawe Forum on Easter Sunday, losing to Super Series Stage 2 Champions Week winner Matt Clark 6-1 in the Final. Stretch impressed in the opening competition, including finishes of 112 and 107 in a 6-3 win in the Final against former BDO Boys Champion Leighton Bennett.
The Red Dragon player also included a 10-dart leg in the fourth leg to lead the Final 3-1 in Bridlington, as he also included wins over Open Series Event 1 winner Lewis Gurney in the Semi Finals and former World Championship Finalist Andy Hamilton in the Quarters. The Englishman moves into 2nd in the ADC Rankings after earning 256 points for winning Winmau Open Series Event 5.
James Richardson has secured yet another trip to Portsmouth after beating former MODUS Super Series weekly winner Adam Mould 6-1 in the Final on Saturday. Ruthless pinned the bullseye in the Final for a 161 finish against Mouldy in the opening leg of the match, to continue his strong start to the year.
Sunday saw Adam Mould clinch his first win in the Winmau Open Series, going one step further in Event 7 in comparison to Event 6 the day before. The Englishman defeated Gary Hayes 6-4 in the Final in Bridlington, as he moved top of the ADC Rankings having won and reached a Final across the weekend in the Open Series.
Mould moves 244pts clear as the ADC Number 1 after earning 256pts for his win in Event 7, whilst also adding 128pts for reaching the Final on the Saturday.
Chris Wickenden impressed on the Championship Tour last year, coming close to clinching a victory in the 8 competitions held last year. Pugs has already appeared at the Super Series and will now return to Portsmouth after winning a last leg decider against Phil Borthwick in the Final of Winmau Open Series Event 8.
The Dartsworld Academy Award winner moves 5th in the ADC Rankings with his victory in the Final competition of the weekend, including a first 9 dart average off 104.55 against Borthwick with 3 180s hit.
Wickenden beat Joshua Richardson in the Quarter Finals, before proceeding to clinch a 5-4 deciding leg victory in the Semi Finals against Shaun Rutter.
The opening stages of the ADC Women’s Tour commenced, with the Top 8 in the rankings all set to feature in a lady’s MODUS Super Series in Portsmouth.
Deta Hedman leads the way with 20pts ahead of Angela Kirkwood in 2nd by a point, with former 4-time World Champion Lisa Ashton and current Girls Champion Eleanor Cairns all in the Top 8 after the opening round of tournaments.
Winmau Open Series Events 9-12 will take place at the start of July in Middlesbrough with the next 4 tournaments on the ADC Ladies Tour also featuring on the opening weekend of July. 16 events are scheduled for the Open Series in 2023, with 12 set up for the Female Tour.
