Yeovil is set to play host to the World Seniors Masters in June, as the ever-developing tour goes to the location for the first time. Last year, ‘Excalibur’ David Cameron was the winning warrior in this event, then held at the Lakeside Country Club.
Cameron comes in as number 1 seed and will face off against Neil Duff, also a Lakeside victor in 2022 as WDF World champion.
Number 8 seed and 1988 World Champion Bob Anderson will also make the short hop over to Yeovil from his Clevedon base. He faces the tough challenge of Richie Howson, one of the top performers on the World Seniors tour since its creation last year.
In the next quarter, Phil Taylor will face off against former BDO World finalist Mark McGeeney. With Taylor yet to win a World Seniors title, he will be keen to get off to a strong start.
The winner of that rubber will face either Martin Adams or Dennis Harbour, in a tie that evokes further memories of BDO past. Both are in vintage condition and could well provide the goods for the Yeovil crowd.

It is America v. Britain in the next match-up, as Leonard Gates faces off against Mark Dudbridge. Gates has found a confident home in World Seniors darts and picked up the last major event at the Champion of Champions. Could he make it two on the bounce?
Waiting for either of the pair in the following round is Trina Gulliver or Chris Mason. Gulliver was reunited with the Lakeside World Championship women’s trophy in Blackpool following the kind donation of LP Metal Detecting in what was a poignant moment for all concerned.
She will be hoping more silverware could beckon in this event, but faces a tough opener.Robert Thornton has made the World Seniors Tour his domain over the last year, winning both World Championships as well as 2022’s Matchplay. He faces Colin McGarry at the start of what he hopes will be another fruitful campaign. ‘The Thorn’ ought to be cautious, however, with McGarry having come close to felling Taylor back at the Tavern in February.
The final first round match proves to be a timeless classic, as John Part faces Kevin Painter. Part defeated Painter en route to both his 2003 and 2008 world titles, so ‘The Darth Maple’ may well be hoping good things come in threes.
All first round matches will be played on Saturday 24th June, before the remainder of the event concludes the following day.
