Steve Brown: Darting USA

Red Dragon Darts

When I left you, we had the Las Vegas Open approaching, which shows you how long ago that was! Well, Vegas was a fantastic weekend, with the biggest turnout we’d had in years. It was great to see some old friends we hadn’t seen in ages.

The main events were the WDF 501 Singles events, and the titles went to Chris Lim (over Gary Mawson), and Paula Murphy (over Cali West), with the  cricket singles going to Leonard ‘Soulger’ Gates and Paula Murphy (no surprise there)!

Before the Open, we held our two National Championships. The cricket was held on Thursday, with the Champs being Marlise Kiel (over Cali West), and Chuck Puleo, who stormed to an incredible 5-1 victory against Leonard Gates. In Friday’s 501, ‘Soulger’ went one better, seeing off Danny Baggish, while Paula Murphy prevented Marlise Kiel from completing the double.

On the Saturday, the 2023 US National Team was announced, along with the US Team for the 2023 WDF World Cup. The National Team is the top six men and top three women from the previous year, and these players receive a free trip to the 2024 National Championships in Las Vegas. The men are led by US #1 Leonard Gates (TX), along with Bruce Robbins (MA), Jason Brandon (TN), Dustin Holt (OK), Danny Lauby Jr (IN), and Kevin Yasenchak (OH). The women are led by US #1 Marlise Kiel (OH), along with Paula Murphy (FL), and Cali West (NY).

The team which will travel to Denmark for the World Cup is: Cali West, Carolyn Mars, Paula Murphy, Marlise Kiel, Robbie Phillips, Joe Chaney, Leonard Gates, and Danny Lauby Jr. They will be joined by the youth team of Cyndi Kelley, Kellie-May Buzzell, PJ Stewart, and Kaden Anderson.
