Gian Van Veen and Jarred Cole were victorious on Saturday, in winning Development Tour Events 13 & 14 respectively, as the PDC’s Youth Tour weekend continued in Hildesheim.
Van Veen, who had already picked up three Development Tour titles in the opening 12 events of the year, went all the way once again as he reached the final of Event 13 firstly by recording victories against Jeremy Jendrzejewski, Owen Roelofs, Levy Frauenfelder, Danny Jansen, Sascha Stuhlemmer, Cam Crabtree and Lewis Gurney, to set up a clash with Dutch compatriot, Wessel Nijman.
The final began with Nijman racing into a 3-0 lead, with winning legs coming in a total of 38 darts, before Van Veen ended the run by picking up his first leg of the tie in 20 darts. Nijman moved within one of victory in the following leg, as he fired in a 14-dart hold of throw, leaving Van Veen needing to produce a remarkable comeback to keep his title hopes alive. Incredibly, the Dutchman did so, as he rattled four consecutive legs, sealing the victory in 18 darts to pick up an incredible 4th Development Tour success of the year and leapfrog Luke Littler at the top of the Order of Merit.
In Event 14, , with the Englishman reaching the final firstly by recording victories against Marc Nalis, Lewis Williams, Matteo Ognibeni, Luke Littler, Tomas Houdek, Dominik Gruellich and Cam Crabtree, to set up a clash with Austria’s Rusty-Jake Rodriguez.
The final began with Cole racing into a 2-0 lead, with winnings legs coming in 14 and 15 darts respectively, before Rodriguez halved the deficit in Leg Three with a 20-dart leg of his own, which turned out to be his only leg won in the tie, as Cole rattled off three consecutive legs, sealing the victory in Leg Six with a 19 dart hold of throw to pick up a 2nd Development Tour success of his career.
