CHIZZY denies Cool Hand once again to triumph at Players Championship 23:
Dave Chisnall continued his impressive run of form on Thursday, with victory at Players Championship 23, defeating Luke Humphries 8-3 in the final, as the midweek Pro Tour triple header continued at Barnsley Metrodome.
Chisnall, who triumphed at last weekend’s Hungarian Darts Trophy, went all the way once again, as he reached the final firstly by recording victories against Tony Martinez, Jim Williams, Richard Veenstra, Stephen Burton, Brendan Dolan and Christian Kist, to set up a clash with Humphries once again in a final for the fifth time in 2023.
The final began with Chisnall racing into a 4-0 lead with winning legs coming in 11,15,15 and 12 darts respectively, before Humphries picked up his first leg of the tie in Leg Five with a 14-dart break of throw.

Chisnall went on to win three of the following four legs, which saw the St Helens Star move within one of victory and leaving his opponent needing to win six straight legs to keep his title hopes alive.
Humphries did pull one leg back, before Chizzy sealed the victory in Leg 11 with a 13 dart hold of throw to pick up a fourth title of the year and defeating ‘Cool Hand Luke’ in all four finals.
Humphries’ run to the decider saw the Former World Youth Champion record victories on the day against Jimmy Hendriks, Mervyn King, Andy Boulton, Ross Smith, Jonny Clayton and Gary Anderson, before being denied by Chisnall for the second time in four days.
Elsewhere, there were Quarter Final runs for Masters Champion Chris Dobey and Germany’s Ricardo Pietreczko, with the likes of Nathan Aspinall, Joe Cullen and Raymond Van Barneveld amongst the high profile first round casualties.
The PDC Pro Tour triple header concludes on Friday with Players Championship Twenty-Four taking place in Barnsley, with the 128 players competing for a further £100,000 in prize money, with play beginning at 1pm BST.
