LUKE Humphries has been hailed as an inspiration by Prime Minster Rishi Sunak during a special visit to 10 Downing Street.
Humphries’ achievement in winning the Paddy Power World Darts Championship this week has received global recognition and led to his invitation to meet the Prime Minster on Friday.
Alongside giving a darts lesson to Mr Sunak, the 28-year-old discussed his career in the sport so far and saw him praised for his willingness to discuss his battles with anxiety and depression openly in recent years.
“You’ve inspired millions,” said Mr Sunak. “Your personal story is incredible, it really is.
“Anyone going through any difficulty in their life will be able to look at you and actually hear the courage with which you talk about it.”
During the conversation, Humphries admitted: “Four years ago I went through mental health things, where anxiety was something that was a struggle for me.
“I was hoping that I’d be a little bit of an inspiration for the public.”
Humphries and fellow World Darts Championship finalist Luke Littler also met Lucy Frazer MP, the Secretary of State at DCMS, on Thursday.
