Aden Kirk was victorious on Sunday, in winning a first Challenge Tour title of his career, after defeating Danny Jansen in the decider, as the opening weekend of the PDC’s second tier tour season concluded in Milton Keynes.
Kirk, who is often remembered for his memorable victory against Phil Taylor at the 2014 UK Open, reached the final firstly by recording victories against Harry Lane, Scott Mitchell, Ciaran Teehan, Keith Rooney, Connor Scutt, Andy Hamilton and Wesley Plaisier, to set up a clash with the Dutchman, Jansen.
The final began with four straight holds of throw between the pair, before the first break came from Kirk in Leg Five with a 17 darter, which was followed by a 20 dart hold to move 4-2 ahead and within one leg of victory.
Jansen did pull one leg back, before Kirk sealed the victory in Leg Eight with an 18 dart hold of throw and a 5-3 success to pick up the £2,500 top prize, as well as denying Jansen the opportunity to double his title tally for the weekend, having been victorious at Friday’s Event Two.
The PDC Winmau Challenge Tour returns between 15-17th March with Events 6-10 taking place at Halle 39, Hildesheim. All live scores and results will be viewed via tv.dartconnect.com.
