Released late in 2023 as part of Mission Darts’ winter launch, Connor Scutt’s V2 darts certainly turned the heads of darts fans, with a striking and unique design – a complete overhaul when compared to the darts released shortly after Connor signed with the company.
Coach’s Comment: Connor can count himself a little unlucky losing his tour card after performing very well, in flashes, during his first spell on the tour and just missing our t on an immediate return via Q-School. His reaction has impressed many, including myself, as he has just got with the darts available to him and already booked a return to the UK Open via the Riley’s route.
When Mission released his V1 darts, I got in contact with Connor to quiz him on his new darts, and to learn about the design, and the thought process behind it. Connor has been kind enough to speak to me once again, to provide his own commentary on the equipment he uses.
This is a dart, to put it in simple terms, that could be a genuine contender for the best looking dart released in 2023. A striking bronze PVD coating covers the entirety of the 48.5mm barrel, including in the recessed micro-grip section towards the centre-to-rear of the barrel.
According to Connor, the silica coating was introduced as a way to “make the dart grippier”, without affecting the subtlety of the grip itself. The coating will warm over time, which offers Connor a second dimension of grip, creating a semi ‘sticky’ feel to the barrel.
The grip itself, as I touched upon earlier, is very subtle. Connor opted for a micro-grip in a complete 360 from his previous darts, which utilised thicker cuts to ehance the aggressiveness of the barrel. The micro-grip appears to be a call-back to Connor’s older Unicorn ‘Next Generation’ darts, which, despite being a shorter, lighter and thicker barrel, featured an identical style of grip, in a similar location in proportion to the rest of the barrel.
The darts are based off of, as most avid darts fans will have picked up on, the Perfect Darts Space Raiders. The long taper that spans just under 50% of the total barrel length will aid any darts player in their grouping – something Connor has used to his advantage, gaining plaudits within the PDC and Modus alike!
Despite measuring in at 7.4mm in width over on the Darts Corner website, don’t be fooled – the darts both act, and feel much thinner. The actual point of grip is approximately set 1mm into the barrel, meaning the point of grip will feel just like most straight barrel darts available to purchase today. The weight distribution will naturally kick the darts high, resulting in next to no ‘blockers’, unless you suffer an unfortunate low dart.
The darts are available in two steel-tip weights, 22g and 24g. Connor’s darts are also available in soft-tip, in 18g. The soft-tip are 7.2mm, so 0.2mm thinner than their steel-tip counterparts. All three sets are 90% tungsten, and come fitted with a short black point, Mission Sabre shaft, and signature Mission Connor Scutt flight.
The Mission Connor Scutt range, as well as the rest of the growing Mission range, are available from Darts Corner, as well as most other reputable darts retailers.
