Andy Boulton completed a perfect double on Saturday, in winning Winmau Challenge Tour Events Eight & Nine, as the second weekend of the PDC’s second tier tour season continued at Halle 39, Hildesheim.
Boulton, who picked up two Challenge Tour titles during his 2023 campaign, reached the final of Event Eight firstly by recording victories against Patrick Lynskey, Jeroen Mioch, Harry Lane, Michael Hurtz, Patrick Bulen, Thomas Lovely and Shane McGuirk, to set up a clash with Dutchman Danny Jansen.
The final saw Boulton dominate the entirety of the tie, as he rattled off five successive legs including a trio of 15 darters to seal his first title of the year and deny ‘The Mullet’, who occupies top spot on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit.
Event Nine saw Boulton dropping just 16 legs on the route to the final, as he recorded victories against David Schlichting, Steffan Siepmann, Adam Mould, Ryan O’Connor, Connor Scutt, Jesus Noguera and Kevin Burness, to set up a clash with Englishman Jamie Atkins.
The final began with Boulton racing into a 3-0 lead, before Atkins fort back by rattling off three legs of his own to square the tie up at 3apiece and make it a best of three contest. The pair then held throw for the following two legs to set up a ninth and deciding leg, in which Boulton would throw first.
The advantage of winning the bull-off pre-match proved to be vital for ‘X-Factor’ as he sealed the victory in 18 darts to pick up back-to-back titles and put himself up the 2nd on the Order of Merit.
The PDC Winmau Challenge Tour weekend concludes on Sunday with Event Five taking place in Hildesheim, as play commences from 10:30 CET, with all live scores and results to be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com
