MVG vs The Nuke: The Tale of Tape

Play the Pro Darts Scorer

Our friends at dartsdatabase.co.uk are offering some fantastic insights into the final of the PDC World Championships from Alexandra Palace this evening.

The original darts statistics and information website is undergoing a restoration and whilst they admit it is a work in progress many have acknowledged its welcome return.

Their Head to Head for Luke Littler vs Michael Van Gerwen gives some excellent clues into what we may witness tonight.

Overall: 6:6

MVG and The Nuke have met twelve times across all formats since January 2024 and they are tied at 6 wins a piece. However that does not quite tell us the full story.

Seven of these ties were short format Premier League ties Michael wins that exchange 4-3. Three other instalments were World Series of darts unranked ties Luke claimed this rubber 2-1 including the longer format exchange.

Ranking Games:

DDB records only 2 raking clashes and again these were split 1-1 with Luke taking the most recent clash on the European Tour (6-1). However, perhaps the most important clash was in Blackpool for the first round of The World Matchplay. MVG dominated the game and kept Luke form hitting his very best in a controlled and impressive 10-4 win.

Averages: 97.80 vs 100.17

While Luke Littler’s career average is impressive, it is lower than his current event average for Ally Pally which is over 102! MVG’s career average is truly exceptional, he has had peaks and troughs for over 15 years and still averages over 100. His 103+ against Callan Rydz proved he can produce both the score and the moment.

Win %: 80 vs 77

Again both are in the very top echelon of our game. Very few newcomers win anything like that number for many years, so Luke’s 80%+ is outstanding. Only the very best to have ever payed can manage a win percentage of over three quarters of the games played over a full career of more than 10 years. MVG is supremely competitive and although sometimes he may try too hard or be too aggressive in his rhetoric, he most often finds a way to win.
