Mervyn King was victorious on Saturday as he was crowned the winner of Week Nine at the Modus Super Series, after defeating Steve West in the final to secure a place in Champions Week and winning the weekly top prize.
King, who entered the finale having won Group B on Thursday and Friday, began the night by winning just one of his two group phase matches, as he firstly defeated James Richardson, before suffering a defeat to Steve West. However, ‘The King’ did progress through to the Semi Finals, where he came up against Charlie Martin, and from there, King defeated his compatriot, 4-2, to book his place in the final.
In the decider, King came up against Steve West, who’d defeated Tommy Lishman in the last four, and in a battle between two Former PDC Tour Card Holders, it was King who came out on top and got his revenge against ‘Simply Steve’ West with a 4-2 victory to seal a place at Champions Week for the first time, as well as collecting the £5,000 first prize.
The Modus Super Series returns on Monday with the start of Week 10, with the first of three days of Group A commencing, with the field including Former Weekly winners in Jimmy Van Schie and Tom Sykes. Play will commence from 9:30am BST and will be streamed live on the Modus YouTube channel, Pluto TV or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
