Mervyn King & Steve West, Brian Raman & Xanti Van den Bergh, Richie Burnett & Kurt Parry, Shane McGuirk & John O’Shea and Jimmy Van Schie & Danny Van Trijp all secured their places in Saturday’s International Pairs finale on Friday.
The five pairs battled through their respective groups at the Modus Super Series, to join Scott Campbell & John Henderson (Scotland), the winners of Group A earlier in the week.
King & West, who entered Friday’s on 8 points from the opening day of Group C, topped the group overall after winning three of their five matches, as they recorded victories against Craig Galliano & Justin Hewitt (Gibraltar), Sebastian Steyer & Lukasz Waclawski (Poland) and Jacques Labre & Nicolas Thuillier (France), with their two defeats coming against Brian Raman & Xanti Van den Bergh (Belgium) and Neil Duff & Richard McKee (Northern Ireland), to end on 14 points from a possible 20 overall.
Elsewhere, Raman & Xanti Van den Bergh also progressed through to Saturday’s finale, after the pair finished 2nd overall on 14 points, whilst Duff & McKee finished 3rd on 12 points, Labre & Thuillier in 4th on 8 points, with Steyer & Waclawski and Galliano & Hewitt finishing 5th and 6th respectively on 6 points each.
In Group B, Burnett & Parry topped the group overall, after completing a clean sweep with four wins from four, as they recorded victories against Manpreet Kalsi & Peter Wachiuri (Kenya), Jimmy Van Schie & Danny Van Trijp (Netherlands), Shane McGuirk & John O’Shea (Ireland) and Marcel Althaus & David Schlichting (Germany), to end on 12 points from a possible 16 overall.
Elsewhere, McGuirk & O’Shea and Van Schie & Van Trijp also progressed through to Saturday’s finale, after finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively overall, with the Irish pair ending on 10 points and the Dutch duo ending on 8 points, edging out Althaus & Schlichting, who also ended on 8 points, but missed out in 4th due to leg difference, whilst Kalsi & Wachiuri finished bottom on 2 points.
The Modus Super Series continues on Saturday with the conclusion of International Pairs Week with the six pairings battling it out for the £5,000 top prize. Play will commence from 7:30pm BST and will be streamed live on the Modus YouTube channel, Pluto TV or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
