Gerwyn Price has sensationally withdrawn from this weekend’s Dutch Darts Championship, with Willie O’Connor confirmed as his replacement in the draw.
The Welshman, currently ranked (11) among the sport’s elite, was due to enter the second round in Rosmalen on Saturday, where he would have faced the winner of the first-round tie between Gian van Veen and Boris Krcmar. However, for reasons that have yet to be disclosed, Price has opted to pull out of the event.
As a result, Irishman O’Connor has been drafted in as a late replacement.

This withdrawal extends a curious drought for Price on the European Tour, where he has not claimed a title in over two years – his last victory coming at the International Darts Open in Riesa.
While still a major force in televised tournaments and regularly reaching the business end of big events, the Iceman’s absence from the winner’s circle in European Tour competition has been notable.
Despite this latest withdrawal, Price’s place in next week’s Premier League play-offs at London’s O2 Arena remains secure. He qualified ahead of the final night of league action in Sheffield, which took place just 24 hours ago. The Welshman finished fourth in the table, meaning he will face top seed and reigning champion Luke Littler in the opening semi-final on Thursday, May 29.
Price has not publicly commented on his decision to withdraw, though in the past, he has cited a recurring ear condition and general fatigue from the sport’s demanding travel schedule as reasons for taking time away from certain events. With the Premier League finals looming, it may be a calculated move to prioritise recovery and preparation for one of the sport’s most prestigious nights.
In the meantime, Willie O’Connor will relish the opportunity to step in and potentially make a deep run in Rosmalen, while fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see how Price responds when he returns to action next week at the O2.
