World Cup of Darts Preview: The Seeds

Play the Pro Darts Scorer

The 2025 BetVictor World Cup of Darts is set to light up Frankfurt’s Eissporthalle from June 12th to 15th, as forty nations collide in a spectacular celebration of global tungsten-slinging prowess.

The draw is in, and all 36 non-seeded nations now know their group-stage fate, with the PDC confirming the twelve three-team pools. Meanwhile, the four seeded heavyweights – England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland – will enjoy a watching brief until the last 16, where their knockout opponents will be revealed.

THE SPECIAL ONES:

England enter the 2025 tournament as big favourites and defending champions, having secured a record-breaking fifth title last year thanks to the dynamic duo of Luke Humphries and Michael Smith.

ENGLAND (1): This time around, Humphries returns as world number one alongside 18-year-old phenomenon Luke Littler in a pairing that blends ice-cool experience with fearless firepower.

Reigning World Champ, Littler, who has taken the darting world by storm with victories in the Premier League, Grand Slam, and World Series Finals, now links up with Humphries to form one of the most talked-about partnerships in recent memory. Youth meets top-ranked authority – and they’re not just here for the group selfies.

Contenders to Watch? Oh, there are plenty. Let’s begin with the other three top seeds who bypass the round-robin chaos and cruise straight into the last 16. These are considered the main threats to England’s throne: the pretenders with a serious shot at turning that crown upside down.

WALES (2): The duo of Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton brings experience and flair, making them perennial contenders. In 2020, this was the event that set The Ferret on a roll, winning countless non-ranking events. Don’t worry, he’s done fine since. Very recently in fact, he just won he Dutch Darts title. Him and Gezzy wouldn’t mind seeing the trophy back on Welsh soil.

SCOTLAND (3): Veterans Peter Wright and Gary Anderson aim to recapture past glory with their seasoned partnership. It’s been four years since the Tartan Tungsten Army tasted success under Snakey and the Hunk of Huntly, John Henderson. With four PDC World Championship titles under their belts, can Can Scotland make it a hatrick of World Cup wins this year?

NORTHERN IRELAND (4)  It’s a fresh and more youthful look to the team this year – although personally I think Brendan Dolan looks great for his age! However, the History Maker won’t be in Germany this time round as the duo is made up of Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney. If they click, don’t be surprised to see the trophy heading to the Emerald Isle. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go all the way.
