Thursday’s MODUS Super Series action was marked by an even close outcome than is often produced in the later group stages. In both groups the lead is held via leg difference or by the slimmest of margin’s from the chasing pack.
Ronan McDonagh and Martin Thomas took the early lead on Thursday in ending Day One of their respective groups, top, as they look to join Neil Duff in Saturday’s finale at the Modus Super Series.
McDonagh, who entered Group C having finished 4th in Group A earlier in the week, took the early lead after winning four of his five matches, as he recorded victories against Jonathan Platt, Darren Johnson, Ivan Springborg Poulsen and Ciaran Teehan, with his only defeat coming against Peter Wachiuri, to sit on 8 points from a possible 10 thus far.
Elsewhere, three players in Darren Johnson, Ciaran Teehan and Peter Wachiuri ended the day 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively overall on 6 points each, whilst Jonathan Platt and Ivan Springborg Poulsen sit 5th and 6th on 2 points each.
In Group B, Martin Thomas took the early lead after winning three of his four matches on Thursday Evening, as he recorded victories against Henry Coates, David Wawrzewski and Charlie Manby, with his only defeat coming against Adam Gawlas, to sit on 6 points from a possible 8 thus far.
Elsewhere, Adam Gawlas also ended the night on 6 points, but sits in 2nd behind Thomas on leg difference, whilst Charlie Manby sits in 3rd on 4 points, with Henry Coates and David Wawrzewski sitting 4th and 5th on 2 points each.
The Modus Super Series continues on Friday with players continuing to battle out as they aim to join Neil Duff in Saturday’s finale, with McDonagh and Thomas taking the early lead thus far. Group C will commence from 1pm BST and Group B will commence from 10pm BST. Play will be streamed live on the Modus YouTube channel, Pluto TV or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
