Former Women's Week Champion Viinikainen Sweeps Clean

Kirsi Viinikainen took the early lead on Monday, in ending Day One of Group A, top, after completing a clean sweep with five wins from five, as the fourth edition of Women’s Week commenced at the MODUS Super Series.

Viinikainen, winner of the second edition, also reached the Semi Finals of the last Women’s Week at the Super Series back in April, made her return by taking the early lead in Group A after winning all five of her matches, as she recorded victories against Natalie Gilbert, Trina Gulliver, Gemma Hayter, Kirsty Hutchinson and Paige Pauling, to sit on a maximum 10 points from a possible 10 thus far.

Elsewhere, Gemma Hayter ended the day in 2^nd on 6 points, whilst three players in Natalie Gilbert, Trina Gulliver and Kirsty Hutchinson sit 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th respectively on 4 points each, with Paige Pauling sitting bottom on 2 points.

Gilbert, a Darts World columnist, had a day that reflected her year so far. After pushing Viinikainen all the way in the opener she claimed a win over Paige Pauling before again losing out in a last leg encounter, this time with Trina Gulliver. The Tamworth thrower bounced back with an emphatic 3-0 victory of Hayter before suffering the reverse in her final match against Hutchinson.

The MODUS Super Series continues on Tuesday with the six players returning, hoping to boost their chances of securing a place in Saturday’s Finale, with Viinikainen leading the way thus far.
