Blom Edges Out Edgar to Claim World Open

Diamond Draws Competitions

It was Dutch Delight in Las Vegas as Moreno Blom became the 2026 World Open Champion, after a thrilling final where he edged out Matthew Edgar in a last-leg decider. Blom took home the $2,100 prize purse after taking the title that took place on the all-new Masquerade stage at the Rio Hotel and Casino.

Blom’s path to the title began with a hard-fought semi-final win over Jordan Brooks, edging past him 4-2 at a 90.94 average to book his place in the Championship match.

Waiting for him there was Matthew Edgar, who’d looked the sharper of the two semi-finalists on paper, seeing off James Beeton with a commanding 94.79 average to reach his own first World Open final.

Edgar had reeled off three legs on the spin to produce a comeback win, in which he produced 138, 106 and 121 checkouts in succession to book his place in the showpiece event.

Meanwhile, Blom took his chances in his win over Brooks, as he backed up a break of throw with a hold twice in the match.

The final lived up to the billing that the semi-finals suggested, with Blom completing his title run in a 5-4 decider against Edgar. Fitting for a final between the two form players of the night, neither man gave an inch, with Blom eventually getting over the line with an 84.38 average, with three maximums along the way to seal the silver-ranked WDF event.

For Edgar, a runner-up finish in the World Open comes on the back of a week that’s already shown great promise, having reached the quarter-finals of the World Masters earlier in the festival.

His performance against James Beeton, as well as an average of 98.3 in the last 64 against Clint Clarkson will give the Englishman great confidence that he can compete at this level once again.

With the Masquerade Stage now broken in for the first time, all eyes turn to Saturday’s World Masters finale, but for one night, Las Vegas belonged to Moreno Blom.
