The Ripley Elite Darts Singles League staged their fourth annual REDSL Double Start Grand Prix Darts Competition which attracted a healthy 52 players including many of the locals. A selection Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and even Essex players joined to make it a very decent line-up.
In the end, it was Ripley Elite Darts Singles League’s very own Keith Lodge from Crich who defeated Lloyd Pennell 7-6 in an absolute epic final encounter after Lodge had opened up what appeared to be a somewhat easy win 6-1 lead. However, that was not how it went as Pennell fought back in style to level the game before Keith Lodge won the decider in 15 darts to complete a thrilling final.
REDSL Premier League title-chasing duo Chris Bird and Dale Gadsby were the losing semi-finalists with the former narrowly losing out 6-5 to Lloyd Pennell while Gadsby lost 6-1 to Lodge the eventual champion, the losers receiving £50 each. Making their exits in the last eight but collecting £25 for their efforts were Andy Houghton, Adam Warner, Andy Hyland and Aden Kirk. As champion Keith Lodge received £250 while runner-up Lloyd Pennell picked up £130.
The ever-popular free-to-enter first-game losers competition was won by Tony Hill who won the final in straight legs, 3-0 against Dan Lever.
Organizer Daz Brown commented, “A massive shout out to all players who turned up to make it another memorable day, to my right-hand man Jordan Beresford and to Nick Kirk who won the football card £100, Jack Kerr and Craig Freeman who all helped out more than you all know, very much appreciated”.
