VICKY PRUIM tops the rankings after the opening weekend of the Women’s Amateur Darts Circuit in Middlesbrough. Four different players claimed the £500 on offer in each event, as well as ranking points that go towards the Championship Tour Order of Merit.

The Top 8 on the Women’s Championship Tour Order of Merit will secure places at the MODUS Super Series, where Deta Hedman claimed the respective Title in November last year.

“The Heart of Darts” did get onto the winner’s podium at the very end of the WADC Championship Tour opening weekend in Middlesborough, defeating Samantha Kirton 5-3 in the Final including checkouts of 98, 158 and a Shanghai (120) to win it.

Deta made history last year at the Live Lounge after becoming the inaugural Championship Tour Finals Day winner, in a fantastic afternoon of arrows in November 2023. The 64-year-old sits 4th in the rankings after the first 4 events, so is currently on course to get back and reclaim her title at the end of the year.

“When they have the first one and you get there and win it, you want to go back. You want to get there again to have a chance to defend it” said Deta to Darts World contributor AJ Urmston Toft.

Sweden International Pruim leads the way after claiming glory in Event 2 on the Saturday at Eston Sports Academy, surviving a late fightback from former WDF Girls World Champion Eleanor Cairns to win 5-4 in the Final.

“I played well at the beginning of the game, I let Eleanor back in and I knew you cannot do that. The second event it all came to together, and I’m happy with that” reflected Vicky after winning on Saturday.

The 50-year-old was forced into a last leg decider on the Sunday against Angela Kirkwood who qualified as part of the Top 8 on the Championship Tour last year.

Angela won the Event 3 Final 5-4 to bring Vicky’s remarkable 12 match winning run to an end. “Girl on Fire” included checkouts of 100 and 112 in fighting back from 4-2 down, to win 5-4 and get on the board for the 2024 WADC Championship Tour.

“I couldn’t have dreamt for anything better, and I’m absolutely amazed at what I’ve done. You’ve got to keep going and I’ve enjoyed it, a cracking day!”

Pruim sits on 212 points and leads the way after the first 4 events of the WADC Championship Tour, 4 points clear of Angela Kirkwood in 2nd having reached 3 Quarter Finals over the weekend.

Recent 2 Time Women’s Series winner Fallon Sherrock is 3rd in the rankings having claimed the inaugural Event at Eston Sports Academy, averaging 90.54 in a 5-0 Final win against Lorraine Hyde including a 14-dart break of throw in the 2nd leg.

The Queen of the Palace has already showcased her skills on the MODUS Super Series stage, having hit a 9 Darter against Adam Lipscombe whilst also reaching a few Finals Nights in previous campaigns. The WADC Championship Tour could give the trailblazer an opportunity to go back to Portsmouth and clinch even more success.

“I love playing at the MODUS Super Series, that stage has good memories for me including the 9 darter along with many successful wins. When I watched the women playing last time, I wanted to get there and be a part of history.”

Sherrock showcased consistency on the opening weekend in Middlesborough having reached the Quarter Finals in every competition, guaranteeing at least 16 points per event whilst claiming the £500 winner’s share from Event 1.

WADC Championship Tour’s 5-8 will take place on the 25th and 26th of May at Eston Sports Academy, with more prize money and ranking points on offer in what will be another competitive weekend of darting drama.
