Resilient Tingstrom Reaches MSS Finale

Viktor Tingstrom secured his place in Saturday’s finale on Wednesday, after winning four of his five matches to end his Group A campaign, top, as the field was confirmed for Groups B and C at the Modus Super Series.

Tingstrom, who entered Wednesday’s play on 14 points from the opening two days of Group A, topped the group overall, after winning four matches from five and claiming Wednesday’s qualifying spot in this weekend’s finale.

The impressive Swede clocked up victories against Corne Groeneveld, Conan Whitehead, Colin Osborne and Kieran Smith, with his only defeat coming against Robert Thornton, to end on 22 points from a possible 30.

Elsewhere, Corne Groeneveld and Conan Whitehead will compete in Group B, after the pair finished 2^nd and 3^rd respectively overall, with both finishing on 20 points each. The duo will be joined on Thursday and Friday Evening by Bradley Brooks, Pete Burgoyne, David Wawrzewski.

Colin Osborne, Robert Thornton and Kieran Smith will compete in Group C, after finishing 4^th, 5^th and 6^th respectively overall, with Osborne ending on 16 points, Thornton on 10 points and Smith on 2 points. The trio will be joined on Thursday and Friday Afternoon by Aaron Beeney, Mason Whitlock and Owen Bowden.

It was certainly a day of mixed fortunes for Osborne. The Wizard, a Darts World Ambassador, had begun the day in the same form that had seen him sweep clean with five wins on Tuesday.

The 48-year-old also claimed his 100th MSS win and moved into a select club of only four players with that number or more, Osborne also holds the records for most matches played and most weekly wins (jointly with Robert Owen).

That , however, was as good at it got for the former Champions League of Darts winner as two close defeats saw his chance of winning the group disappear.

The Modus Super Series continues on Thursday with Group C commencing from 1pm BST and Group B commencing from 10pm BST.
