Klinge Joins World Series Qualifiers

BRODY Klinge will make his World Series of Darts debut at the 2024 Australian Darts Masters, following his exploits in last weekend’s DartPlayers Australia ProTour treble-header in New South Wales.

The Commercial Club in Albury played host to Events 7-9 on June 15-16, as Klinge confirmed his qualification for August’s showpiece after winning his maiden DPA ProTour title in Sunday’s Event Nine.

Klinge finished second on the weekend’s Order of Merit behind Brenton Lloyd, but with Lloyd already assured of his place in Wollongong, Klinge was next in line to secure a World Series debut on home soil.

The weekend began with Stuart Coburn celebrating a third DPA ProTour crown, as he added a first title of 2024 to his brace of victories in 2022.

Coburn overcame Bill Aitken, Lloyd, Hayden Scott and Rob Modra before launching a late fightback to deny Tim Pusey in the Event Seven showpiece, reeling off four straight legs from 4-2 down to triumph.

Lloyd later returned to winning ways in Event Eight, recording a 6-3 victory against Brandon Weening to claim his second title of the year.

Lloyd also accounted for Dave Hanel, Scott, Harley Kemp and Klinge on his way to victory, which moved him to the top of the DPA ProTour Order of Merit.

However, Klinge rounded off the weekend in style, kicking off Event Nine with a trio of straight-set wins against Torin Helmore, Joe Comito and former PDC Tour Card Holder Gordon Mathers.

He then reeled off six consecutive legs to dispatch Joshua Townsend in the last four, before wrapping up an emphatic 3-0 victory against Weening in Sunday’s decider.

Klinge becomes the fifth regional representative to clinch a place in the Australian Darts Masters, which will be held at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong on August 9-10.

Simon Whitlock will headline the list of regional representatives, which also includes New Zealand’s number one Haupai Puha, as well as Lloyd and Modra, with the remaining three spots to be confirmed next month.

The DPA ProTour will resume with Events 10-12 on July 13-14, as Australia’s top stars continue their bids for World Series of Darts and World Darts Championship qualification.
