Dave Chisnall continued his impressive run of form on Wednesday, after a dominant 8-4 victory over Chris Dobey in the final of Players Championship 23, as the PDC Pro Tour double header concluded at Leicester’s Mattioli Arena.
Chisnall, who picked up his second European Tour title of 2024 at the Flanders Darts Trophy earlier this month, came out on top once again on the Pro Tour, as he reached the final firstly by recording victories against Callan Rydz, Dylan Slevin, Jeffrey Sparidaans, Madars Razma, Mervyn King and Stephen Burton, to set up a clash with Dobey.
The final began with Chisnall breaking Dobey’s throw in the opening leg in 15 darts, before there was a run of four straight holds of throw, with the streak being ended by Dobey in Leg Six, as the North East star pinned an 18-dart break to square the tie up at 3apiece. Chisnall then stormed in front by rattling off four successive legs in a total of 60 darts to move 7-3 ahead and within one of victory. Dobey did pull one leg back, before Chisnall sealed the victory in Leg 12 with a 14 darter to clinch a fourth PDC title of the year as well as the £15,000 top prize.
Dobey’s run to a fourth Pro Tour final of the year saw the Former Masters Champion record victories on the day against Richie Burnett, Nathan Rafferty, Andrew Gilding, Mike De Decker, Jonny Clayton and Martin Schindler, with the Englishman firing in a nine-darter in the opener of his Semi Final clash with Germany’s Schindler, before being denied the chance by Chisnall of claiming a hat-trick of Players Championship titles in 2024.
Elsewhere, there were Quarter Final runs for Australia’s Damon Heta and England’s Martin Lukeman, whilst the likes of Stephen Bunting and Dimitri Van den Bergh were amongst the high profile first round casualties. Also, as well as Dobey, there was a second perfect leg hit during the day’s proceedings, as Adam Warner stroke perfection in his second-round defeat to Jurjen Van der Velde.
The PDC Pro Tour returns on 1-3rd October at Wigan’s Robin Park Tennis Centre with Players Championship 24-26 taking place, with the 128 players competing for £125,000 in prize money each day, with play to commence at 13:00 BST.
Play will be broadcasted across four streaming boards on PDC.TV and various bookmaker websites worldwide, with all live scores and results on tv.dartconnect.com.
