Cups Underway in Midlands Leagues

As the new year momentum gets underway, several leagues go their cup tournaments moving.

On the agenda for the Sheldon and District Winter League was round one of their Punchbowl Trophy. Current leaders of the Premier League Sheldon Marlborough Arrows had a somewhat comfortable 6-1 win playing away against division two side Langley Pints while second in the premier, Langley Arrows played bottom of the same division EBAHA and won 5-2 with a 106 finish for J.Wilcock (EBAHA). Fellow premier teams RAFA and Banbury Club squared up to each other with the former getting the close 4-3 result. Mackadown Sports and Social Club (premier division) had a rather close 4-3 win away to Maggies from division two, while Highwood (premier division) had a more convincing 5-2 result against division one side Old Salts Darts whose M.Clayton checked out on 122. In the all division one game, despite an eleven darts game for Kingshurst Labour Club, they lost 6-1 to Hollywood Social Club (division one). In the other two games played Castle Bromwich WMC (division two) lost 5-2 to Brian’s Fliights (premier) and Yardley Ex Colts (division one) beat Digby from division two 5-2.

Game number nine in the Harborne and District League had no effect on the top nine teams in the league, leaders Northfield Conservative Club adding a 7-2 win away to Weoley Castle WMC to their tally to put them two points to the good on second placed Copper Fox ‘R’ who had a bye this week.Third placed Northfield Darts Club are on the same sixteen points as Copper Fox ‘R’ and missed the opportunity to overtake them as they lost 6-3 away to Copper Fox ‘M’,

The league had four maximum scores this week abd they were supplied by P.Sitshebo (Harborne Social ), L.Allen (Northfield Darts Club), A.Beagrie (Mill) and L.Fox (Cock Inn).

It was cup week in the Four Oaks and District League first the Prestridge Shield in which division one leaders Highcroft Hotdogs had a narrow 5-4 victory over division two leaders Drakes Drum. The other two games played were fought out between division one rivals, Plough and Arrows, with a 160 break from Nigel Robbins, beating Old Oscott Arrows 5-4 and Walmley CSC Flights making their exit as they lost 6-3 to Nomads @ Hollyfields.

Charley’s Flights were the only division one team in the Roy Bird Shield fixtures and they progressed to the next round with a 7-2 win over St Thomas Misfits (division two). Deer’s Leap, with a maximum from Daniel Taylor, won 7-2 against Sutton Sports and Pint Pot Flights beat Erdington Arrows 6-3.

It was top versus bottom in the Kings Norton League this week as leaders Northfield played hosts to bottom of the league Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club, the result an emphatic 7-0 to Northfield to keep them top of the table with a game in hand on second placed Copper Fox who after adding their 6-1 win at Stirchley to their account are on the same fourteen points as Northfield but they have played one game more than their rivals. Third in the table Bournebrook are a further two points adrift with twelve points, their latest fixture seeing them win 4-3 at Greenlands.

Game ten in the Camp Hill League saw no change in the top five places in the table as leaders Wakefield Warriors won 6-1 at home against Moseley Arms to open up a two points lead over second placed Erdington Nomads who had a bye this week and now have a game in hand on the leaders. Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club are third, their 4-3 home win over Clumsy Swan leaving them four points off the top as are fourth in the league Roost Bosh who were awarded a 4-0 result against Roost Rebels.

Week two in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League and of the nineteen starters only six remain undefeated. Glasscutters ‘A’ top the table on average following their latest 7-0 win at Mount Pleasant. Second placed Raven ‘A’ are two legs of average short of the top side after their similar 7-0 win over Glasscutters ‘B’. Third and fourth placed Crestwood and Ten Arches are both a further one leg behind and in turn won 5-2 over Gigmill and 6-1 against Rose and Crown ‘A’. Fifth in the table Old Liberal Club have five legs of average fewer than Glasscutters ‘A’ after, a close 4-3 win in their latest fixture at Gornal British Legion. Queens Head make up the top six they only played their first game this week and won 7-0 at Raven ‘B’.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ kept their title hopes on course in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League and despite their latest win being a close 5-4 at home against twelfth in the league High Acres ‘A’ they remain eight points ahead of their nearest rivals Maverick who also had a narrow 5-4 win at home against Dudley Sports ‘A’ who are fourteenth in the league. Third placed Old Bush are on the same forty-six points as Maverick after their latest, once again, 5-4 win at High Acres ‘B’. Bridge and Mount Pleasant are respectively fourth and fifth, both with forty-four points and in turn won 5-4 and 8-1 against Rose and Crown ‘A’ and Tommy Turners ‘A’.

With a maximum from both A.Tonks and H.Williams plus a fourteen darts game from P.Tonks and M.Rollinson, Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ top the Netherton Thursday Night 501 League with a perfect score of thirty points from their opening ten games, their latest being an 8-1 home win over Netherton Sports and Social Club. Old Liberal Club are second and keep within three points of the leaders with their 8-1 home win over Spring Meadow Pub with N.Fullwell, S.Passey and C.Pickett all finding the three treble twenties for the winners. In fact there were big wins  for all of the league’s top five teams as third placed British Oak won 9-0 at Mount Pleasant, fourth in the league, Bulls Head had an 8-1 home win over Cottage Spring and fifth placed Plough and Harrow won 9-0 at home against Netherton Conservative Club

It’s close at the top of the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League, Old Liberal Club ‘A’ top of the table with forty-eight points from twenty-six games, their latest being a 6-1 home win over Brickmakers Arms while their nearest rivals Swan won by the same 6-1 margin at home against Mount Pleasant to leave them level on forty-eight points but from twenty-seven games. Third and fourth placed Bird in Hand ‘E’ and Hollybush both have forty points and have played twenty-six games, the latest in turn being a 5-2 win against Fox Inn (Lye) and 4-3 success over Red House.

The Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League have been involved in week three of their John Walters Trophy and in league ‘A’ a 9-0 win at Parkes Hall sees New Inn 2 top the table with four points and although second placed Red Cow suffered their first defeat going down 6-3 at home to Gornal British Legion they only trail the leaders on average.

Meadow Lark are top of league ‘B’ having won both of their first two games, the latest being a 6-3 win at Triangle giving them a two points lead on second placed Cabin who have only played and won one game.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club and Quarry Bank Liberal Club ‘B’ are third and fourth, both on seventy points and in turn have played twenty-two and twenty-one games.

The West Midlands Men’s Super League has got its new season underway and after the opening fixtures Kings Head and Staffordshire Knot share the number one spot after in turn winning 5-0 against Junction ‘B’ and Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’, giving them five points each. Five teams are on three points and they are William Archer, Hotshots, Chase Social, Dog and Partridge and Dudley Ex Servicemen’s Club.

It’s week three in the West Midlands Ladies Super League and Evonne Taylor holds on to pole position with twenty points after she beat Jackie Trott 3-0 in her fifth fixture. Second placed Gemma Barrett has also played five games, her latest 3-0 win against Debbie Davies leaving her two points behind Taylor. Third and fourth placed Kat McLean and reigning champion Jacqueline Maiden are both on sixteen points but they have only played four games.

The Amblecote RBL Premier League have got their new season underway with a total of thirty-eight players. Topping the table after the opening two weeks is reigning champion Tom Bissell who in his latest fixtures began with a 7-0 win over Kian Rogers, he then had a narrow 4-3 win against Craig Lowin before he finished the night how he started with another 7-0 win, this time his opponent was Chris Cox. Bissell tops the table with thirty-four points, four more than second place Paul Wells who has a game in hand.

Simon Mountford holds on to his 100% win record at the top of division one in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League after beating Justin Evans 5-3. Second placed Chris Manoila was held to a 4-4 draw by Simon Pritchard and now trails Mountford by four points.

The two top players in division two Reece Cook Lucas and Richard Brown have both maintained their winning starts to the new campaign, Cook Lucas winning 8-0 against Joe Bartolo to put him on twenty-eight points and Brown beating Claire Hobbs 7-1 to give him twenty-five points.

Jade Wellings made it three wins in as many games in division three with a 5-3 success against Lauren Fawcett while second placed Joanne Meachin, who also has three wins from her opening three games won 6-2 against Sarah Barratt to leave her two points behind Wellings as is third placed Dave Akers who didn’t play this week.

Once again no changes in the top two places in either the Singles or Doubles Leagues in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League, Junction ‘B’ holding on to the top spot in both leagues and Hotshots second in both. The latest fixtures saw Junction ‘B’ win 6-1 at New Gate Inn ‘B’ in the singles league to put them on fifty-six points, four more than second placed Hotshots who had a 5-2 home win over Dog and Partridge.

In the doubles league Junction ‘B’ had a straight 3-0 win at New Gate Inn ‘B’ while Hotshots had the same result against Dog and Partridge to leave them still within two points of Junction ‘B’.
