Darts Mourns the Passing of Christine Thornton

Darts World is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Christine Thornton, beloved wife of two-time PDC major winner Robert Thornton.

Robert, affectionately known as The Thorn, had been scheduled to compete in the World Seniors Darts Champion of Champions event but withdrew for personal reasons.

It has now emerged that he was facing the devastating loss of Christine, his lifelong partner and greatest supporter.Christine was a constant presence by Robert’s side throughout his career.

More than just a supporter, she played a pivotal role in helping him overcome personal challenges – including his battle with alcohol over a decade ago. Robert has often credited Christine as the guiding influence who helped shape his life, describing her as the reason he was able to turn things around, both professionally and personally.

When Robert lost his mother, it was Christine who helped him navigate that grief. And in more recent years, when he fell out of love with the game, she helped him rediscover his passion for darts.Well-known and well-loved on the circuit in her own right, Christine’s passing will be felt by many within the darts community.

She was a familiar face at tournaments, often seen supporting Robert with warmth, humour, and unwavering encouragement. Her friendships extended far beyond the oche, and her presence will be dearly missed by players, officials, and fans alike.

Christine’s passing was discreetly acknowledged on screen at todays event with the notice used for this piece.
