Wrapping up proceedings in Leicester after a high-octane weekend of relentlessly entertaining tungsten action, Nathan Potter was the last man standing on Sunday afternoon, claiming his maiden PDC Challenge Tour darts title.
A regular on the Development Tour, the youngster – nicknamed The Wizard – conjured up a sequence of polished and increasingly authoritative performances, including two ton-plus average displays, to finally etch his name onto this particular roll of honour.
Despite boasting a surname which, aside from its association with a certain Harry Potter, might also suggest a razor-sharp aptitude for snooker, Potter once again demonstrated that, armed with a set of darts, he is a formidable and highly accomplished operator on the oche.
After navigating a tense last-leg decider against last year’s Red Dragon Champion of Champions winner, David Davies, the 22-year-old accelerated impressively, with his most notable victory coming against the vastly experienced Graham Hall.

Another finely balanced encounter followed, as he edged past Scotland’s Stuart Wares in a deciding leg, before producing a blistering and emphatic display – registering a colossal 104.13 average – to sweep aside Jack Aldridge.
The semi-final against one of Friday’s title winners, Derek Coulson, was a contest laced with quality, with both players operating at a near-ton standard. It was the Welshman who seized the early initiative, leading 2-1 after the opening exchanges, before Potter responded with clinical precision, reeling off four consecutive legs to surge into the final.

Awaiting him there was Radek Szaganski – a Pole with a senior Pro Tour title to his name. However, what appeared on paper to be a closely fought contest proved anything but, as the Suffolk youngster delivered another scintillating performance, once again surpassing the three-figure average en route to a commanding victory.

There is little change at the summit of the Order of Merit. Joe Hunt remains in first place, followed by Derek Coulson, Tommy Lishman, Aden Kirk, Martijn Dragt, and Jack Tweddell completing the top six. Potter’s triumph elevates him into joint seventh position alongside Tommy Morris.
