Once again, the latest weekend of the Professional Darts Corporation Women’s Series revolved around one inexorable force – Beau Greaves, yet this time Vicky Pruim and Deta Hedman also made headlines.
The Doncaster prodigy arrived in Leicester already possessing an astonishing catalogue of titles and accolades to her name. By the conclusion of Saturday evening, that glittering collection had expanded by a further two crowns, underlining yet again why she remains the pre-eminent figure within the modern women’s game.

Her first triumph of the weekend was secured in utterly devastating fashion. Across seven matches, Greaves relinquished a mere four legs – a statistic bordering on the absurd given the calibre of opposition standing in her path. The 22-year-old dismantled an array of elite female arrow-smiths, including Swedish standout Vicky Pruim and Fallon Sherrock, whilst also dispatching Sherrock’s sister before storming emphatically beyond Lisa Ashton in the semi-finals.

Awaiting her in the showpiece was the legendary Trina Gulliver, fresh from lifting a title during last weekend’s WADC action in Aylesbury. Yet even the ten-time world champion could find no meaningful answer to the relentless brilliance of Greaves, who eased to another commanding triumph.

Later that afternoon, Greaves doubled her tally. The English phenomenon opened proceedings with a colossal 105.78 average to brush Janine Gough aside with scarcely any resistance offered in return. Aside from a tense and dramatic encounter with reigning Lakeside champion Deta Hedman – eventually edged via a deciding leg – Greaves looked entirely untouchable throughout the remainder of the event.

Sunday, however, delivered the weekend’s most unexpected development. Greaves was defeated.
Welsh thrower Rhian O’Sullivan produced an inspired display to eliminate the dominant Doncaster ace in the quarter-finals, immediately throwing the entire field wide open and injecting fresh intrigue into the competition.
Following a succession of high-calibre encounters, the tournament culminated in a fascinating showdown between The Caribbean Queen, Deta Hedman, and Finland’s Kirsi Viinikainen. The vastly experienced Hedman exploded from the blocks to establish an early 2 – 0 advantage before Viinikainen admirably battled back to restore parity. Yet class, composure and enduring quality eventually prevailed as the 66-year-old icon asserted her superiority to claim yet another prestigious title.

In the concluding event of the weekend’s quartet, Gemma Hayter became the second player of the day to topple Beau Greaves, edging a thrilling quarter-final encounter in a dramatic deciding leg. The talented Eastleigh thrower even produced a sublime ten-darter during the contest, adding further lustre to one of the finest victories of her burgeoning career.
Hayter’s momentum continued into the semi-finals where she dismantled Deta Hedman 5 – 1 in another hugely impressive performance. Yet despite the magnitude of that scalp, it was ultimately Vicky Pruim who emerged with the title.
The Swedish star first dispatched Karolina Ratajska before overcoming Lauryn Salter to book her place in the final showdown. Neither Pruim nor Hayter truly discovered their most fluent rhythm in the decider, though it was the Belgian-born thrower who surged into a commanding 4 – 0 lead. Although Hayter threatened a late resurgence by clawing back two legs, the deficit ultimately proved insurmountable as Pruim clinically sealed victory in the subsequent leg.

Following twelve completed events, Beau Greaves has already disappeared into the distance atop the Women’s Series Order of Merit and appears virtually assured of a coveted Grand Slam of Darts berth.
Should the Doncaster sensation secure qualification for the PDC World Darts Championship through the Pro Tour Order of Merit – a scenario which increasingly appears inevitable – the next three eligible players in the standings would currently be Lisa Ashton, Deta Hedman and Gemma Hayter. However, it remains highly improbable Hedman will pursue Alexandra Palace qualification, with the legendary veteran instead expected to prioritise the defence of her WDF World Darts Championship crown at Lakeside.
The Women’s Series circuit now heads onwards to Wigan on June 20-21, where the battle for qualification, ranking points and silverware will resume once more.
