Crabtree Claims Fifth Title and Blocks Bialecki’s Remarkable 38 Game Run

Diamond Draws Competitions

Croydon thrower Cam Crabtree captured a fifth career Development Tour darts title in Milton Keynes, edging fellow Englishman Nathan Potter in a pulsating final and the event which also witnessed the conclusion of Sebastian Bialecki’s extraordinary unbeaten sequence.

Before focusing on the champion, due acknowledgement must be afforded to the young Polish prodigy. Arriving for the second of Saturday’s double-headers on a remarkable 35-match winning streak, Bialecki had reigned supreme in the previous four Development Tour events and appeared almost invincible. Ultimately, however, The Bolt was halted by Dutchman Angelo Balsamo, bringing his astonishing run to a scarcely believable 38 consecutive victories – a feat which appears highly improbable to be eclipsed any time soon.

As for Crabtree, the pattern of his progress bore striking similarities to that enjoyed by Bialecki earlier in the weekend. The gifted South-East Londoner surged imperiously towards the final, rarely appearing under any significant duress. By the time he had booked his place in the showpiece, he had relinquished a mere seven legs.

On just two occasions during that march was Crabtree afforded anything approaching a meaningful examination. Welsh youngsters Kai Clarke and Cole Davey each managed to secure a couple of legs against Shazam, yet both ultimately succumbed by a 4-2 scoreline.

The remainder of Crabtree’s victories were achieved with consummate authority. Some came via emphatic whitewashes, most notably against the in-form Henry Coates in the embryonic stages of the competition, while others saw him concede just a solitary leg, including his dominant semi-final success over Archie Self.

By the time the final commenced, the evening shadows had descended upon Arena MK as the two English hopefuls contested the concluding encounter of the day. After racing into a commanding 4-1 advantage, Crabtree appeared destined to continue his hegemony over the event and coast serenely towards the title.

Yet Potter exhibited considerable fortitude and gradually reeled his opponent back in, forcing the contest into a deciding leg. With the pressure at its zenith, Crabtree summoned one final flourish, producing a magnificent 14-dart leg to seal victory and return to the Development Tour winner’s enclosure once again.

With just one more remaining on Sunday, the curtain will then descend on the third Development Tour gathering of the campaign.
