AS we move into the final day of the 2026 World Grand Prix, there are just two remaining players looking to pick up the trophy, two players who have done so once before.
Gerwyn Price is in a fourth final at the Grand Prix, having done so three times in four years between 2020-2023. The Welshman won at the first time of asking in 2020, beating Dirk van Duijvenbode 5-2, before losing to a brilliant Jonny Clayton performance in 2021.
The 2023 final is the most interesting one though, as it took place between Price and Humphries, Humphries coming out on top as he won his very first PDC major, winning it 5-2.
The Welsh #2 has a total of five ranking major titles to his name, three Grand Slam’s in 2018, 2019 and 2021, the 2020 Grand Prix, and the 2021 World Championships.
Despite this, he hasn’t won one since the 2021 Grand Slam, almost five years ago. In that time he has barely dropped out of the top 10, won the World Series Finals and the World Cup, but just hasn’t been able to get over the line in a big ranking event.
The Iceman has lost his last three finals at this level, the 2022 Matchplay, 2023 Grand Prix (to Humphries), and the 2026 Matchplay a few months ago.
He has played a total of 13 major ranking finals, winning 5 of them, with a win rate of 38.5%.
Luke Humphries is in a fourth consecutive final at the Grand Prix, the first to ever achieve that feat in the premier double-in event. Like Price, he won his first final, beating the Welshman 5-2, but lost his next two.
In 2024, he fell short to the underdog story of Mike De Decker, before succumbing to Luke Littler 6-1 despite having a higher average. This means both players have lost their last two finals here, the run has to change for one of them.
“Cool Hand” has won a total of seven ranking majors since his first in this venue three years ago, but all seven came within 16 months then, as he hasn’t managed to pick one up since claiming the inaugural Winmau World Masters in February 2025.
He has managed to claim the 2025 Premier League and 2026 World Cup since then, but has lost a total of four consecutive finals at on the big stage of a ranking event, three to Luke Littler, and one to Gian van Veen (2025 European Championship).
He has played a total of 14 major ranking finals, winning 7 of them, so a win rate of exactly 50%.
Suitably, the head-to-head between the pair is tied at exactly 17-17 from their 35 meetings, with the other resulting in a draw in the 2019 Premier League.
Humphries leads 4-3 in 2026, winning their last two meetings, including in the Semi-Finals of the Czech Darts Open at the start of September.
Excluding the Premier League, the pair have shockingly only met three times in major tournaments. The Welshman won their first meeting in the Last 16 of the 2020 Players Championship Finals, before Humphries won the next two.
The first of course came at the Grand Prix in 2023, as well as a 16-13 win in the Semi-Finals of the Grand Slam last November.
Luke Humphries is looking to regain his spot as World #2 with the win tonight, while Gerwyn Price is looking to close the gap by beating him.
