World Seniors Day 3: Taylor Out

Red Dragon Darts

Phil Taylor’s record of reaching every World Championship final at the Circus Tavern is over.

The Power was defeated in straight sets by Kevin Painter at the Quarter-Final stage of the inaugural JenningsBet World Seniors Darts Championship

Martin Adams, Robert Thornton and Terry Jenkins also secured wins to progress.

Jenkins 3-1 John Walton

Terry Jenkins defeated John Walton to become the first player into the Semi-Finals.

The Bull has been solid throughout the weekend, already accounting for Roland Scholten and Lisa Ashton.

Jenkins Added John Boy to that list with a 3-1 victory over the 2001 World Champion.

Jenkins had lost in 9 televised major finals in his career before retiring, and will be hoping tomorrow does not end in the same manner.

Robert Thornton 3-0 Dave Prins

Scottish ace Robert Thornton has been the standout performer of the tournament so far. The Thorn has won 9 unanswered sets on his way to the last four and averaged over 90 in all 3 of his matches.

Dave Prins – A qualifier via the Qualifiers order of merit due to Kevin Burness winning a PDC Tour card – had previously beaten legends Paul Lim and John Lowe in impressive fashion. But The Badger found himself a level below Thornton this evening.

The second set of the match was the best set of the tournament so far. Winning legs of 14, 14 and 12 for Thornton meant he averaged 112.73 for the set.

Kevin Painter 3-0 Phil Taylor

Kevin Painter ended a run of 31 consecutive defeats to Phil Taylor, beating the Power 3-0.

The opening 2 legs of the match were incredibly edgy as both players tried to settle on the stage. It was the man from Essex that managed to do just that first. Painter produced a run of 7 legs on the spin at an average of 98.

Taylor did eventually stop the rot, winning leg 3 and leg 4 in the 3rd set, but despite a couple of missed match darts in those legs, Painter closed out the deciding leg of the set and with it the match.

Adams 3-1 Butler

Fresh from his immense demonstration of finishing against Richie Howson in round 2, Martin Adams completed the Semi-Finals line with a 3-1 victory over American Butler
Wolfie is the only former world champion remaining in the field and will hope to add to that tally on Sunday night.

Butler took the opening set averaging 95, but the Englishman weathered the storm in set 2, and ran away with the remainder of the match-winning 6 of the last 7 legs.
