Munuya and Mawson Illustrate International Flavour of MODUS Super Series

Despite the highly International flavour of the latest Group A it was Englishman James Hubbard who took the early lead on Monday, ending Day One , top, after winning four of his five darts matches, with Week Six of Series 15 commencing at the Modus Super Series. 

Hubbard, who last competed at the Super Series in October last year, made a long-awaited return by taking the early lead in Group A, after winning four of his five matches, as he recorded victories against Jamai Van den Herik, Patrick Dekker, David Munyua and Gary Mawson, with his only defeat coming against Derek Coulson, to sit on 8 points from a possible 10 thus far.

Elsewhere, three players from Wales, Netherlands and Kenya in Derek Coulson, Jamai Van den Herik and David Munyua ended the day 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively on 6 points each, whilst Patrick Dekker and Gary Mawson sit 5th and 6th on 2 points each. 

While there will be plenty of eyes on the in form Welshman many will also be delighted to see David Manyua return. The Kenyan star’s run at the PDC World championships, with his defeat of Mike de Decker, excited and delighted in equal measure. 

North American Mawson return to the Portsmouth Live Lounge after some encouraging results on the Championship Darts Circuit in the USA and Canada. The Canadian born Mawson, who now represents the USA, is a former UK Open finalist but had suffered something of a dearth of titles until the end of August at the Winmau Darts Challenge title in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Gary defeated current USA form guy Adam Sevada in the final and has risen to sixth on the CDC’s two year order of merit.

The chasing pack of International talent has two more day to attempt to overhaul home nation man and former World Youth Champion (PDC) who will be looking for sommething of a fresh start himself after an extended quiet spell.

The MODUS Super Series continues on Tuesday with the six players returning, hoping to boost their chances of securing a place in Saturday’s Finale, with Hubbard leading the way thus far.
