Seniors’ Friday Flourish

Red Dragon Darts

Since the draw and schedule were published, darts fans of every generation highlighters Friday and especially Friday evening at the Circus Tavern as the one not to miss.

The day’s lineup is full of former World Champions and iconic figures including Keith Deller and Bob Anderson from the golden generation in the afternoon and then, in the evening session, the GOAT himself, Phil Taylor, as he bids for a maiden World Seniors Darts Tour World Championship title.

Three-time Lakeside World Champion and 2020 Premier League Champion Glen Durrant, World Finalist Mark ‘Flash’ Dudbridge and the return of ‘Darth Maple’ and the return of the conquering hero in the person of defending champion  Robert Thornton all form part of a truly outstanding line-up.

Robert Thornton wins Jenningsbet World Seniors Darts Championship at the Circus Tavern, Purfleet on the 6th February 2022

Thornton faces major champion and finalist, Dutchman Roland Scholten. Only defeated by David Cameron, who has been sent home this year by Richie Howson, in WSDT majors last year The Thorn will fancy getting off to a start towards retaining his title.

Triple Code World Champion Part faces the hugely popular Co Stompé. The second Dutchman to play this evening has been in good shape and playing competitively more recently than the Canadian legend.

Meanwhile ‘Duzza’ will look to use the Seniors event to regain some competitive confidence and bring back the form which saw him win three World titles and a PDC Premier League. His opponent Dudbridge has been playing well on the amateur/open circuit and will not represent an easy debut for the Teesside man.

Phil Taylor during the 2022 World Seniors Darts Tour 2022.

Stoke-on-Trent icon Phil ‘The Power‘ Taylor faces unsung but in form opposition in Northern Irishman, ‘The Chief’ Colin McGarry who has impressed both in qualifiers and at the World Seniors Darts Matchplay last year.

Some see a potential shock in the air but it really must depend on which Taylor takes to the stage. The underprepared model of the 2022 WSDT World Championship needed too long to find some fluency and confidence. But, improvement was noticeable at each major event, and the 11-time Circus Tavern World Championship winner reached the final of Senior Matchplay later in the year.

Friday Schedule:

  • John Part (6) v Co Stompe
  • Glen Durrant (4) v Mark Dudbridge
  • Phil Taylor (2) v Colin McGarry
  • Robert Thornton (1) v Roland Scholten
