Our periodic check-ins on Team 360 coincided with a rash of recent successes. Across the darting spectrum, from Pro Tour to UKDA Team and local open success, Team 360 members were making their presence felt:
Jurjen Van der Velde would defeat Dutch darting hero, Raymond van Barneveld, en route to a board final in Players Championship ten. Van der Velde, who gained his tour card in January, was knocked out in round one on the Saturday, but recorded an impressive win over Keegan Brown in his opening game on Sunday.
The young Dutchman would then defeat the five-time World Champion, and one of the icons of the game, 6-2 to reach the last 32. He would go down fighting against the pro tours number one seed, in the shape of Luke Humphries. A hugely promising weekend for the former JDC World Champion.
It was a busy weekend for Adam Dee as he competed in a trio of INDO events. After making it out of the group in convincing fashion in the boy’s event, recording a 92 average in the process, Dee would produce three more wins on the spin to book a semi-final spot. His run would come to an end in the final four as he lost out in a deciding leg to Jack Lenihan.
The young Irishman would also achieve a quarter-final finish in the men’s INDO Trophy event, bowing out to Michael Meaney in the last eight.
Elsewhere, Nico Bado was in action over in Gibraltar, making the quarter-finals of the Gibraltar Classic men’s event. There would be a promising run from Bado in the youth event, steamrollering his way into the semi-finals with 4-0 and 4-1 victories. He would overcome Casey Dyer in the final four to book his final spot, but eventually lost out to Kilian Perales in a tight final.
There was success at County level for a couple of our young stars, with Hannah Meek staring in Warwickshire Ladies B’s win over Hampshire. Meek emerged a 3-1 victor over Joanne Senior, collecting her sixth Lady of the Match award in the process.
Cayden Smith was part of the Black Country side that were promoted to division A over the weekend. The men’s B side could still be crowned champions of their individual division, should West of England drop points next week.
Ben McCaffrey is beginning to hit his stride again and was in the winner’s circle in local competition over the weekend, picking up the winner’s trophy at the Riverside Bar monthly darts tournament. Finally, Keelan Kay was a finalist in the local darts scene in Plymouth, averaging an impressive 85 in his 6-4 final loss.
