Robert Thornton completed a remarkable turnaround to top Group C and book his place in Saturday’s Finale, with Finnish debutant Petri Rasmus joining him after two tightly contested days at the MODUS Super Series in Portsmouth.

“The Thorn”, who had finished bottom of Group A earlier in the week, finished the Group C campaign with seven wins from ten matches.

The Scot closed out the afternoon with a nervy last-leg victory that confirmed his qualification, ending on 14 points and a +11 leg difference.

It marks a return to Finals Night for the former UK Open champion, his most recent appearance coming in Series 12.

Rasmus produced an outstanding Super Series debut to finish level on 14 points with Thornton.

The Finn’s consistent form across both days secured second place on leg difference and a well-deserved berth in the Finals Night line-up alongside Jeff Smith.

Jamie Kelling pushed hard on the final day and finished third on 12 points with a strong +11 leg difference and the highest average of the group (85.27).

Jim Widmayer, Harry Ward and Nico Plovier completed the table lower down.

The drama went down to the final round of fixtures, with Kelling keeping his hopes alive before Thornton and Rasmus confirmed the two qualification spots from Group C.
